Dear Cindy....

I, too, am scheduled for surgery next week, on Thursday, teh 19th. The

latest reports have been a bit unsettling to me also but, my friend.....hold

steady. It is human nature to focus on the " negative " and so easily lose

sight

of all those who come through with flying colors, those who say they would do

it again in a heartbeat.

I attended a hospital Pre-Admission workshop on Tuesday. The psychologist

asked how many were nervous. About 30 people, out of about 35, raised their

hands. She assured us that it is completely normal to be a bit nervous about

going thru a major surgery. She also told us that we can tackle that

nervousness

in two ways. Either we jump on an emotional treadmill and exhaust ourselves

with worry OR....we can recognize the problem (fear), then verbalize it, get

it out in the open, and talk about it just as you have done here.

I have done that this week. I " talked " to myself about my decision to have

surgery. I made that choice because I believe I will live longer. I made

that choice because I researched the surgery. I made that choice because I have

faith in my surgeon, and most of all, because I have faith in God. I believe

if God brings me TO it.....He will bring me THROUGH it.

Praying for your peace of mind, Cindy. Put your trust in those you have

chosen to care for you, and of course, trust God. I believe all things will be

well for both of us., my friend.

Hope to see you after you're on the " losing side " .......

Hi

I too have surgery next week- Friday. I have done really good until last

night when I thought WOW What AM I DOING????HAVING SURGERY TO LOSE WEIGHT?

ISN'T

THAT VAIN???? Then I started to pray. I know it isn't vain. I do pet rescue

and we have a small shelter at our house. We rescue 600 pets a year from a small

shelter that gives unwanted pet to research (and it isn't medical either). If

I don't lose weight I am not going to be able to continue this. I already

have a really hard time cleaning daily and helping to set up for adopt a days. I

believe that God wants me to continue to help these pets and that to do that

he will help me through the surgery. I prayed before going to sleep for a

little strength ands support from him. I had silly dreams all night of being

skinny

and going placing with puppies and ect. lol When I woke this morning I

weighed myself as usual. I have been on a diet and have lost 16 pounds for

surgery.

Well yesterday was my little cheat day so I knew I hadn't lost but probley

gained a pound....Well I had lost 2 more pounds!!! I can bend over and put my

shoes on now instead of putting my leg up on a chair... I haven't been able to

do

that in a year- it sure feels great. Got me to thinking all the other stuff I

will be able to do again after surgery and I loose my weight. I feel God is

behind me on this and though it is only human nature to worry some...things

will be ok. Thanks for reading. Roxanne .

It is perfectly normal to have these fears. You just have to force all

negative thoughts out of your head and do not dwell on anything negative. Force

yourself to think of something else everytime they enter your head. Just put

your faith in the Lord and trust him to protect you. This is what I did and I

had peace. It worked for me.

Diane,

Hang tough, girl. We're all in this together. I go in next Thurs and what

you're feeling is perfectly normal. Just ask yourself if you have confidence

in your surgeon, trust God, make your final decision, and dont waver from it.

Wishing you peace....

Becky is right, I did not discuss this procedure with anyone except my children,

and after it was all over, I was fine, no problems, back to doing what I usually

do. Stop conferring or relying on friends, having them tell you what the

positives and negatives are, think of how wonderful you will feel, how healthy

you will be, and the designer stores you can shop in. Saundra-NY

Did your friend die because of the surgery??? or was it something else, and stop

listening to other people, if they were friends, they would encourage you, and

support the decision you have made. You will be alright, furthermore your dr.

should be the judge as to whether or not you are more than 50%m at risk going

into surgery. Be happy, but not so overjoyed as to do something that would

hurt. Saundra, NY
