I have heard that a Florida insurance company (sorry, but I can't

remember which one), at least at one point, was authorizing the

surgery, but was only willing to pay something like $1,500 for them.

Which isn't enough for the surgeon, who flatly said he can't do it

for that amount.

I have BCBS and my company's plan only pays for 80% until you meet the 1700

maximum

co-insurance.

My surgeon had been asked by the insurance company to write it off. It was a big

surprise

when I got my bill. So maybe you have to do some research as to what the charges

are and

maybe ask your insurance company to ask them to write it off.

Hope this helps!

It cost me $600 for the co-insurance (the 20% that wasn't

covered) for the splints. After that, I think they waived the actual

fee from the surgeon to perform the surgery so I ended with a

final bill of $90. Otherwise the part that they wrote off was about

$12,000 or something like that. That was so awesome!

Tim,

BCBS has all kinds of plans; however, if your OS is in contract

(network) with BCBS he is basically saying that he will reduce his

rates to what BCBS requires by contract. I would check this out

with BCBS, first. If he is " out of network " then your insurance

will only pay 50%.

I have BCBS and just had upper/lower jaw surgery 10 weeks ago. BCBS

paid 100% of my OS bill including the splint, 100% of the

Anesthesiologist and all but $500 of the hospital (and I was in ICU

for 2 days due to allergic reation to medication).

It is interesting that your OS is charging so much out of pocket.

Good Luck.

my OS asked for a $6500 deposit bec he is not in the BCBS group. but then he

also charged the ins for his partner who assisted in the surgery, knowing that

they would not pay that entirely. my ins paid 80% of the total bill whicih he

submitted as 25,000$ they paid 17000. I didnt give him the entire deposit and

he ended up writing off a couple of thousand. the ins paid the anestheisa 100%

and the hospital 100%.
