Guest guest
Hi Jo, You say that you did not realize that you had sinus polyps and a deviated septum. Did your surgeon recognize these problems? Is there anyway to pinpoint such problems by yourself (before you make an appointment with an ear, nose, throat doctor that turns out to be a waste of time)? I only ask because I fear I may be experiencing some similar problems. Thanks! > > > > I had a three piece lefort 1(upper jaw moved down and forward and > > widened) 11 weeks ago this Thursday. Guest guest
I have a friend who had polyps " the size of grapes, " according to her papa. She had a lot of trouble with being stopped up and with getting sinus infections, so they removed them. (Nothing to do with orthognathic surgery, though.) Guest guest
I, too, have suffered from breathing issues and a runny nose since my surgery in June. I've always had nasal congestion, but it seemed to worsen about 30% after surgery. My surgeon discussed with me the need to possibly have my turbinates reduced. I'm not really sure what that involves, but I'm sure you could find more information online. If I'm still having trouble breathing at my 6 month post-op appt., my surgeon is going to refer me to an ear, nose, & throat doctor for further evaluation. I'll keep you posted. Guest guest
Hi , I knew I had sinus problems, in general, and mentioned it to him at some pt, bec I remember him sauying I found out why...I used to get sinusitis lilke 1-2x per yr. But since braces went on....NOTHING!! truly. My OS only realized these things were a problem when he went in...I am rather sure that there must be " a way " to check this prior to a surgery (which remind me have you had yours yet? if not, I would wait for an e.n.t dr until afterwards...) Since I had upper and it was a significant move up and I was am anchored in by tiatnuim plates that stay in forever and 2 are on either side of my nose...up high-near my eye sockets (sorry this is kinda weird, hope I am not freaking anyone out-at first I was tweaked by this, bec I didn't really 'get it' until I felt one and was like OKAY!?!). So anyway, my OS, went to move things up and saw this and fixed them--BONUS!! It added on some time to my surg and healing was tricky, the first week or 2, I was a mess with -pardon me but mucus...one night, I was gagging in my sleep and I coughed so hard or what not, that I popped off several rubber bands and had to go right to the OS to replace them. I was using nose spray-one decongestant-one saline, sleeping upright, humidifier and AC all the time (it was Aug), LOTS of qtips since you can't blow, and even one of those blue-ball-baby-nose-sucky- things....know what I mean? anyway, it was tough...felt like I was choking a lot...but you learn tricks to deal and as you do it's getting better so I got thru ok, but just some tricky moments. (oh and ps, be sure to use a NATURAL chapstick for your lips with all this nose stuff they get more beat up then they look post-op...and even vaseline is not good to use, has to be all natural and chapstick just happens to make one called just that...I was a loyal vasaline user over lipstick or what not, I have very picky skin, but HAD to make the change and I do like it!) Let me know what's up with you Ashely... > > > > > > I had a three piece lefort 1(upper jaw moved down and forward > and > > > widened) 11 weeks ago this Thursday. Guest guest
Good luck for that apt... my sudden runny nose has gone away thankfully and I have to say that this surg really helped me breath much better, I went from being an mouth-breather to not at all...night time I don't drool on my pillow and my gums seem happier too! Good things don't come easy, so hang in there and do what's best for your long term situation...remember today will soon be yesterday and the tough moments will pass, so look to a healthy tomorrow and keep working at it!
