I chose to use them in replace of a snack for a few yrs but don't use them now. My protein levels have always been in the normal range. My surgeon does not push shakes at all, she stresses real food, 6 meals a day, protein first. I have not used shakes for the last 6 months but do eat alot of animal protein. My labs again for the 18th time are perfect (I get em every 6 months and this is my 9 yr post op visit). I'm a very short proximal as well and without at least 60mg. of supplemented protein daily my protein levels drop off big time. it is amazing that they can do the same procedure but we all respond so differently. sue
