Okay, it's not much of a big deal so far, but I had my first complication

post-surgery

today. My incision (staples) has been draining pretty much continuously, though

less

and less, since a few days after surgery on Jan. 9th. This morning I took the

gauze off

after waking up and found an odd thing: the only remaining area that was

draining

had some sort of a skin bubble and the staple was almost totally detached. In

fact,

the only thing it was attached to seemed to be about one very thin layer of

tissue!

There was no feeling at all when I plucked it off.

When I did, though, serous fluid started running out. Once it drained, I noticed

I now

had a hole where the staple had been! It was about the diameter of a pencil

lead. To

make a long story short, luckily the home nurse was making a visit this morning

and

looked at it. In her opinion, the area had abcessed and was probably a little

infected.

My temp was normal, though, and there was no pus or anything. (Still isn't.) The

surgeon was contacted and, in his opinion, I didn't need any antibiotics or need

to

come in. I'm scheduled to see him next Thursday.

I'm still a little concerned, of course. I'm not supposed to drive yet, and my

main ride

is going to be out of town for the weekend, so if it turns urgent, I'll have to

drive

myself to the nearest hospital anyway. I know, I know, compared to some peoples'

post-surgery problems, mine is INCREDIBLY minor. But everything had been going

so

smoothly, and I was hoping to make it through without a single complication!

Maybe I

should consider myself blessed this is as bad as it's gotten, huh?
