Guest guest
Hi , As far as I can tell, everything went well. The surgery ended up taking 6 hours instead of the 4 that were planned. I was in the hospital for 2 nights - intensive care the first night and regular care the second. The nurses at North Austin Medical Center were awesome. They did so much to try to help me feel comfortable, which certainly wasn't easy with all the tubes everywhere. The first couple of days were miserable, but each day seems to get a little bit better. My face and lips were extremely swollen and the congestion is killing me. However, my lower lip is back to normal and my upper one is almost normal as well. The feeling is also coming back in my face and lips, so I'm not drooling quite as much now. It's ironic that pre-op I was most concerned about being wired shut. Post-op, being wired shut isn't the greatest, but it's a piece of cake in comparison to dealing with the overall discomfort. I think I was wired because my assymetry was pretty severe, so Dr. Widner wanted to make sure the jaws healed properly with the least amount of strain possible on the jaw joints. Just get lots of rest, drink lots of fluids (Dr. Widner wouldn't discharge me from the hospital until I was drinking at least 30cc per hour) and have a positive attitude! Dr. Widner and his staff were all wonderful and have been very supportive! Let me know if you have any questions! Take care, Matilda > > > > I had upper/lower/genio done last Wednesday, Nov. 3. Guest guest
I think the whole congested and not being able to breath thus not being able to sleep was the worst part of the whole ordeal! I used those breath right strips with menthol---They work REALLY well! you can also get a vicks vapor inhaler--its a tube you sniff and that clears things for a while. Along with those vapor cups I think are made by breath right as well. Its a stryfoam cup with a lid and you drop a menthol tablet into hot water and it is like a small vaporizer. I also was allowed to take Nyquil, but NOT with or near the pain medication---the stuff knocks most people out anyway so I was fine without the pain medicine at night. That seemed to help alot and was the only way I could get a full nights sleep! Deffintaly get the strips because its something you can use long term and use during the day and not have to worry about being drowsey from decongestants. > > > > > > I had upper/lower/genio done last Wednesday, Nov. 3. Guest guest
Hi , The surgery turned out to be more complicated than he had planned, plus he took an extra hour to remove one of the turbinette (sp?) bones from my nose. My nose bled for the first couple of days and now it's mostly just mucous. I saw Dr. Widner right when I woke up from the anesthesia which I don't remember much of. Then he came by to visit on both Thursday and Friday morning. After I was discharged from the hospital, I went straight to his office where they cleaned my mouth up some and took some x-rays. It's pretty cool to see the before and after x-rays. I'm not sure how many mm he moved my jaws and chin. Matilda > > > > > > > > I had upper/lower/genio done last Wednesday, Nov. 3.
