Join the club Randy. I went from 310 -> 175 (I'm 6'2'') and worked our a

lot for the last 4-5 months. My body fat is 9%, and I have obvious muscles

all over the place. I too am obsessed. The toning feels great and I love

the way I look. My main problem lately is that I can't run a lot because I

can't eat enough to cover the calories I burn by running.

I assume you are also noticing the testorosine(sp?) buildup (pimples and the

sexual proclivities of a 19 year old). A weird feeling when you are in your

mid 50s.

Do you have an obsession for making your stomach strong (situps, ab

machines, oblique exercise machines, and all that)? Even though I won't get

it because of the loose skin, I'm trying for my " 6 pack " stomach. Have you

tried a personal trainer?

I still can't get enough food for a real protein buildup but eat those

shakes and a lot of power bars. Remember, we can absorb only 20-25g of

protein at a single sitting anyway.

Awright you bunch of gym ratz.<G>

I did try creatine....but there's a loading that you have to have pre-

workout, that I gave it up; I really couldn't determine the

difference after a while in sets/reps. Yep, the protein " wash " after

a tearing down work-out is a must for any muscle mass build up; cuts

and definition....I learned that the hard way after getting started

post WLS with a " what the heck am I doing wrong? " since nothing

seemed to be building up.

Here's a site that I find to be pretty helpful in spotting muscle

mapping and some of the various routines that can be accomplished via

lever, cable or straight bars.

http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html

Best of luck and enjoy those sessions.

form of lean muscle mass, dropped my fat level and increased muscle

quiet easily. I think it's the protein. Now on to more of my

question. If any of you have began bodybuilding, do you supplement

with other things besides protein? Can we, (meaning mainly me, 165 cm

bypassed) absorb and use creatine? Glucosamine? PO B6? PO B12?

> At first I was just interested in toning up, I saw how easy that

was, saw how much fun it was, the looks and attention I got, the

comments on my body and I knew I had to get bigger, more cut, more

defined. It's amazing that guy's at the gym comment on my body, how

they wish they had a body like mine, how great I look. The entire

time I'm in the gym I still feel like an imposter, like everyone's

lookin' at me thinking " What's that fat ass doin' here? " It's still

hard to get those thoughts outta my head, but I'm working on that.

Now I'm afraid it's becoming an obsession...LOL....

Best of luck and enjoy those sessions.

started bodybuilding after WLS? I mean bodybuilding in the true sense

of the word. I've started working out, increased my weight in the

Randy, I think I know what you mean. I started working out not long ago. I am

still too skinny to get much admiration, but I am becoming obsessed.

However, I think for us, as long as it does not interfere too much with our

jobs, relationships, etc. that it's a GOOD thing.

I know that before WLS I was obsessed with my body and with food anyway. I

don't think about food nearly as much as I used to, and the body obsession now

seems so much healthier than then.

I would be interested to hear what other people think/experience about this.

How strange! This past weekend I participated in a function that

includes tours of homes in our small town. A friend and I were

touring the homes and I kept running into people that I have worked

out with at some of the local gyms. My friend finally turned to me

and said, " Is there a whole gym subculture in this town? " I started

to say, " How would I know? " When it hit me that I have belonged to

not one, or two, or even three but four gyms in the past three

years! Whooda thunk that a fatso like me would have turned into part

of the " gym subculture " ? Four years ago I wouldn't have stepped foot

in one of them, now I do four or five times a week!

The first thing that I did was to have a little heart to heart with

myself. I did not rearrange my innards just to pack the fat back on

again. Then I found me a work out buddy, a gal that I met at the all

ladies gym I had joined in an effort to drop weight before my RNY.

We just sorta fell in like with each other from the first meeting and

began to arrange to meet at the gym at the same time. Then it became

a friendship where we would call each other if one didn't show at the

gym, then it advanced into nagging one another. When we decided to

begin weight training, I hired a personal trainer and we split the

cost. We trained with the trainer three times a week at first. That

can get real spendy real fast. We did that for about three months

and lo, and behold! Results! That was the big motivation to

continue with it. Lost my workout buddy (she got a job) but I still

work with my trainer once a week and on my own three times a week.

Find a way to hold yourself accountable for your workouts. Maybe

restrict yourself from your favorite t.v. show until after your

workouts (I used to tape my fave talk show and only watch when I was

on the stairmaster or treadmill), or restrict yourself from a

wonderful book unless you are on the tread. Well, you get the idea.

Once you begin to see results and people begin to comment that it

appears as if you are losing again you'll motivate yourself.

ramped up to work out? I can go for about 6 to 8 weeks and then I

lose interest. I just can't get into it. Even with all the cute

little hunks there trying to impress me with their Arnold muscles.

And believe me....I totally enjoy watching them... I try about every

six months. I'd love to trade my chocolate obsession for a work-out

obsession. I just don't know if I can. Shake a little of that my

way will ya?
