Guest guest
The first thing that I did was to have a little heart to heart with myself. I did not rearrange my innards just to pack the fat back on again. Then I found me a work out buddy, a gal that I met at the all ladies gym I had joined in an effort to drop weight before my RNY. We just sorta fell in like with each other from the first meeting and began to arrange to meet at the gym at the same time. Then it became a friendship where we would call each other if one didn't show at the gym, then it advanced into nagging one another. When we decided to begin weight training, I hired a personal trainer and we split the cost. We trained with the trainer three times a week at first. That can get real spendy real fast. We did that for about three months and lo, and behold! Results! That was the big motivation to continue with it. Lost my workout buddy (she got a job) but I still work with my trainer once a week and on my own three times a week. Find a way to hold yourself accountable for your workouts. Maybe restrict yourself from your favorite t.v. show until after your workouts (I used to tape my fave talk show and only watch when I was on the stairmaster or treadmill), or restrict yourself from a wonderful book unless you are on the tread. Well, you get the idea. Once you begin to see results and people begin to comment that it appears as if you are losing again you'll motivate yourself. Alice The Loon RNY 12/28/00 > > Ok you two....I want a little of what you have. How did you get so ramped up to work out? I can go for about 6 to 8 weeks and then I lose interest. I just can't get into it. Even with all the cute little hunks there trying to impress me with their Arnold muscles. And believe me....I totally enjoy watching them... I try about every six months. I'd love to trade my chocolate obsession for a work-out obsession. I just don't know if I can. Shake a little of that my way will ya? > Peace, > G in Sacramento
Guest guest
Doh! Figures I go off list for a week and a topic pops up that interests me... I'm a little late chiming in... I have been weightlifting for the last year and a half or so, and started seriously " bodybuilding " about 9 months ago. I supplement with ProScore100 2 or 3 times a day for protein when I'm on program. I've done a lot of reading on supplements and recently Creatine has been reported as overrated and too expensive to take in the amounts you need to make a difference. YMMMV of course. One of my absolute favorite websites in the world for tips and training guides is www.muscle-fitness.com and musclefitness-hers.com I uploaded my Ahnold Pose Pic on the Photos under E. ... and holy cow Carol, I aspire to your guns! http://www.eradain.com/apoplexy Gym Rat? QUESTION: Got your attention? Good. LOL I have a question. Since we've all changed our body, I'd think of all of us as bodybuilders, per se. But my question is, has anyone started bodybuilding after WLS? Randy

Guest guest
> QUESTION: > I have a question. Since we've all changed our body, I'd think of all of us as bodybuilders, per se. But my question is, has anyone started bodybuilding after WLS? I've been watching this thread. my interest with exercise, organized sports, anything that makes you sweat you might say comes and goes. I know I have to do some weight bearing exercise because of my osteo. I also know that burning more calories each day would help with that yo yo I have going on with the scale. and exercise really is a great stress reducer, for me anyhow. but nothing seems to hold my interest for very long. or life or work seem to get in the way all too frequently. I do have a competitive tendency yet seem to be ultimately shy as having never [until monday that is] stepped foot into a public gym. people exercising together in front of each other? who thought up that concept? reminds me too much of HS PE class and the warped PE teacher. bad memories. I've done the kayak races, the 5K's for charity, the race for the cure. at least there you have the people out for a race and the people out of shape who are just there for the charity. its a whole different atmosphere. but last week I was at a charity auction and bid on a one month membership to Curves. I was simply tying to raise the stakes but didn't have a huge interest in winning. needless to say I won it though. so then I was faced with actually feeling the need to use it. so monday I entered that building with people exercising in front of each other - why I'll never know for sure. I surely had a lot of mixed feelings those first 30 minutes. but I went back on tuesday anyhow. it might be interesting to see how long I keep it up and whether I return after having my scar revision next week. bodybuilding? not really but a work in progress. I was probably more active with a walking program and free weights I did 2 yr. ago - having had three surgeries last spring sorta knocked me out of anything physical all year. but I love reading the exercise threads - find them very motivational. but this was a huge step for me guys and gals, walking into that building and exercising with virtual strangers was pretty surreal. sue

Guest guest
, I just have to say......HOLY SHIT!!!!! A-Freakin-mazing...... , you have done amazing things with your body..... It's encouraged me, I was gonna take off from the gym tomorrow, but now I've changed my mind... Your arms are amazing and make mine look like sticks...... Could you send me a sample of what you eat... I'm really concerned about my eating habits.... Just a word about the gym.......Each day as I'm headed to the gym, I am gung-ho, can't wait to get there...... As I turn the corner to get to the building I start thinking that if I see more than four or five cars in the parkng lot I'll turn around and go home, no reason to embarass myself.... I do this every time..... I never turn around.. I face my fears. While I " m working out I keep thinking that someone's gonna laugh at me, gonna wonder what in the hell I " m doing there.... Ya know, it's never happened, but the feelings are still there... The last few day's I've worked out there has been a skinny guy there, working out, he's using the machines, I use the free weights, for the most part... This guy will leave when I get there.... I asked a lady that works there about it, her comment kinda startled me, but not as bad as my own thoughts, she said " Well he leaves any time you buff guy's come in and start working out. " My first thought was " Those Fu**ers, their probably making fun of him. " Then I realized what she'd said... I was one of 'em.... I asked her if some of the people made fun of him... they don't and I know I don't... Now I wanna go to him when he's there and tell him I know how he feels, that I feel the same way... I wanna hug him, make him feel okay about himself..... I know I'll never say a word to him about this, but I feel so sorry for him.... I so know how he feels.... Guest guest
And those very feelings are what have kept most of us out of gyms when we needed it the most. Just look at the TV commercials for Bally's...a bunch of hardbodies. No way I'd go to that place for that reason. in NJ ********************* > > The last few day's I've worked out there has been a skinny guy there, working out, he's using the machines, I use the free weights, for the most part... You just described me, Sue! I always hated P.E. class and never wanted to go to a public gym and exercise IN FRONT of other people. Well, my very rural county just got a YMCA. It only takes me 20 min. to get there as opposed to 45 to go to a larger city. I bit the bullet and joined last week. I am throwing myself into the the water aerobics and Yoga/Pilates classes. I have found that I no longer care who's there or who sees me exercising. I am loving it!! For the first time in my life I actually like exercising. I just signed up for a 12 week fitness program with a trainer and am looking forward to learning how to use all the different machines and weights they have. I'm hoping to take off the last 13 pounds and get some strength back in my muscles.BTW, the yoga/pilates class has been a miracle in getting my muscles and tendons stretched out. I am feeling so much better because of it, I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner! Carol in Ohio

Guest guest
Hey Randy, Did you make it to the gym today? My trip was called on account of my workout buddy Carl spilling hot coffee on his crotchal area while we were heading there. pain and moisture do not make for a good workout session As far as what I eat. lately it's been damn near anything I want. After the 3day protein detox next week tho, I'm going to go back to fruit, beef jerky and nuts for snacks and lots of chicken and veggies for main meals. Oh, and at least two shakes a day. When I'm on track, I try to eat " whole " foods. I avoid the processed sugar and carby snacks, eat lots of vegetables and grilled, baked, broiled chicken and fish. I know what you mean about feeling out of place at the gym. I'm mostly over that. It helps to get there in the wee hours of the morning when only the crazies and dedicated ones are there. I know if I had to work out after work however, I'd wither and die. There's just way too many surgically enhanced women in there for my comfort *smirk* Http://www.eradain.com/apoplexy Re: Gym Rat?
