Guest guest
Hi Kriston, I had my lower jaw moved forward but I did not have genioplasty. My surgery was on 10/14/04 and I was back to work 10/25/04 which is from what I have been told a short amount of time. Anyway, after this surgery you will most likely be swollen so if you decide not to go to the party after the surgery....do not feel bad. I didn't experience pain associated with the surgery........I was uncomfortable for a few days. I wasn't bruised badly so I didn't worry about that. As far as foods, you will probably be on liquid for the 2 weeks (at the least) after surgery. So if your friends who are throwing the party want to make some chicken/beef broth and have out a lot of soft things like jello or pudding that may be helpful to you. I wasn't wired or banded after surgery so " eating " (actually drinking) wasn't a problem. Hopefully this will be your outcome. I am 1 month out and have not been given the OK to start chewing soft foods like eggs and such but I am optimistic that I will ge given the OK soon. Oh........as the time went by I got creative on the things I ate. Basically, 2-3 weeks after surgery I started choosing food that did not require chewing such as a cheese enchilada smothered in sauce. I would let it sit for a little bit so the tortilla would get really soft and I would cut it into small less than bite size pieces put it in my mouth get the flavor and swallow. This helped and still helps me feel " normal " You may not be able to do this right away but it is a thought for the future. Broth can get soooooo boring went that is mostly what you can eat. pattersoncaroleanne wrote: Kudos to you for planning on attending a party so soon after surgery. I had my surgery Sept 10 (upper/lower/chin) and I was on liquids for a couple of weeks. A great shake, smoothie or soup through a zip-n-squeeze bag would have been fine for me. You situation maybe different, I had upper as well, but I wasn't allowed to suck from a straw because of the suchers so it was either the syringe or the zip bags (they worked great). Best of luck with the surgery. Carole Anne > > Hello, my surgery is December 1st. The Following Wednesday (the 8th) > is my work christmas party.
