Kudos to you for planning on attending a party so soon after

surgery. I had my surgery Sept 10 (upper/lower/chin) and I was on

liquids for a couple of weeks. A great shake, smoothie or soup

through a zip-n-squeeze bag would have been fine for me. You

situation maybe different, I had upper as well, but I wasn't allowed

to suck from a straw because of the suchers so it was either the

syringe or the zip bags (they worked great).

Best of luck with the surgery.

Hi,

I would recommend that say you can't attend because you'll still be

healing. The risk is that your colleagues (and your bosses) see

someone that looks quite normal from the outside (depending on the

swelling in your particular case) and they'll wonder why you can't

come back to work right away.

I avoided contact with anyone in the office for 5 weeks. When they

asked for photos, I sent them the photo my husband took of me the

second I was wheeled back into my room after surgery/recovery (you

can see it on site 2).

For 1 week I was on a liquid diet, week 2 I was allowed soft " no

chew " which meant things like soft scrambled eggs, mushed up veggies

& potatoes, etc. At 2 weeks, my parents visited me and they wore me

out. I am normally a very high energy person!

Hope that helps,

Well a week after surgery I am would not have felt up to going to a

party. Everything is still pretty swollen and so on. But to each

his own. As far as eating I am sure that with just a week you will

still be using a syringe which can be akward and I wouldn't have

wanted to use that early on in front of people. So things will have

to be blended, for the first three weeks I had to add water to

EVERYTHING to get it thinned enough to work with the syringe---like

even oat meal, applesauce, and pudding. But that first week things

like the above are good, egg nog could be really good I remeber

wishing it was out because its something that fills you up for a

while with just one glass---but it takes a couple weeks to really be

able to open enough to really clean---actually you can't really get

clean untill the splint comes off. So drinks high in sugar like

ensure or milkshakes or egg nogg you will want to be able to " brush "

and rinse after to get the sugar off your teeth.

Anyway, so you might want to play it by ear about going to the

party, but again people heal at differnet rates and are effected by

diffrent things so if you feel up to then by all means go. But if

you don't, then don't push yourself to go or feel guilty for

cancelling =) It would be tough not to eat all that christmas time

food, but at least you won't gain the holiday weight and won't have

to work it off starting january 2 so you can have that to look

forward to!
