I was always chunky, even as a toddler. I started gaining a lot of weight when

I was about 16. My BMI is 21.

BTW, there is scientific back-up that says when we are fat from a young age, we

have more fat cells. The number of fat cells doesn't go away (unless you have

liposuction), but they can get smaller. So, it seems you would have to work

harder to get the weight off. I think this is a good reason to have the more

radical surgery (distal rather than proximal) to give yourself a better chance

of reaching your goad weight.

I read about the fat cell thing in a book called " Fit or Fat " by Covert .

I believe he is a biochemist or some sort of scientist. Most of his info does

not apply to " us " , but I think the fat cell thing is valid for everyone.

Certainly fat children have either a genetic predisposition or chemical

imbalance, so perhaps our bodies can never really reach those magic MetLife

numbers, or if we do reach them, cannot stay there comfortably. I don't

think a poll would really tell the story, either, though, because some people

are just not done losing yet, even after 3 years...I know I wasn't. I'm now

thinner than I've ever been all my life, and I can't remember my weight in

high school, but I'm thinking 160-180, but just guessing. My last 20 pounds

came off maybe not even 8 months ago, and I will be 4 years out in Aug.

Then, I dropped another 7-10 pounds after my abdominoplasty. So, there are

many variables. Hmmm...

I would be curious, though, if people would mention their status as to being

a fat child and reaching a BMI under 25.

BTW, my BMI is now 25-25.3, depending on how good I was last night. :))

And, I was a fat child.

Liposuction actually removes fat cells, so if you have an area lipo'd and

then regain weight, it will be an overall gain and not back in the specific

problem area. When we gain, we produce fat cells. When we lose, they just

shrink.

Are you sure about that? I thought that we got all our fat cells by the age of

two. My surgeon told me that once you have liposuction you don't form any new

fat cells in that area, even if you gain overall weight. Have you heard about

that?

I thought the same thing Barbara.........I was under the impression that you

didn't create " new " fat cells past the age of two............that the

existing ones just got bigger and bigger..................hmmmmm, P.
