I just had my second upper/lower surgery 8 days ago,and my ortho

adjusted my elastics such that I am havinig a lot of joint pain in my

left side. I've never had joint pain, and it's just awful. I can't

sleep, and even drinking is uncomfortable. I took a Vicodin last

night just to sleep through it, but I want to stop taking the Vicodin

eventually because it makes me flushed and light-headed. I took

Motrin earlier and am applying 15 mins. of heat w/a heating pad along

with 15 mins. of ice. Is there anything else I can do to alleviate

this hopefully temporary discomfort?

My ortho told me that given the newest elastic configuration, I may

just have to tough out the discomfort for a bit.

Thanks for any help you all can give me.

Miserably yours,

Are you having any other problems with the pain, such as

clicking/grinding, and swelling?

I have no swelling to speak of besides what's left from the surgery,

and every once in a while, despite the elastics, I feel a twinge in my

joint, which really hurts! Other than that, I've had to popping or

clicking.

I remember having more pain in my joint on the left after surgery.

It only lasted a couple of weeks and went away. Its probably your

muscle adjusting to your new bite. Ask your os for some muscle

relaxers that really helped my pain. My pain was actually muscle

spasms in my jaw. I also had that annoying ear pain/popping for

almost 4 weeks, but that finally went away. Hope it gets better.
