I was barely able to get anything in, even with a syringe at 1

week. My OS didn't let me start eating solid food until 7 weeks

post op. I didn['t even get mashed potatoes until 4 weeks. He said

the bones were not healed prior to 6 or 7 week and that and it took

a lot of pressure to chew food. Boy, was I hungry and no one wanted

to eat more than I did. Chewing too soon could compromise the

success of the surgery and I listened. After all, I did not want to

do anything to mess up my results. Listen to your OS. He knows

best.

Hang in there. I try to get really creative....You really can eat

just about anything if you add some milk or water to it and mash it

up really good. But I am not chewing at all. Just using my tongue

and the roof of my mouth (which has a splint on it) to " mash " what

isn't already mashed. I guess I was a fortunate one because my doc

let me eat soft food after I got out of the hospital (2 days) I was

eating potatoes, yams, soup....but they were pureed because I was

using a baby spoon. After about a week, I started eating ground up

salisbury steak with gravy. Today is 3 weeks and 3 days and I used a

mortal and pestel (I think that is what they are called) and mashed

up freetos and had chili with velveeta with freetos. I had a craving

for crunchy salty stuff so I just did it! I had upper, lower, and

genioplasty. It is nice to be able to eat.

Hang in there. God bless you.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I am in the process of remodeling

a bathroom at home.

I had surgery for an assymetrical jaw. It involved a LeForte 1 and

bitateral mandiular osteotomy. The lower jaw was your typical

saggital split. Basically, both jaws with 12 plates on upper and

lower. No genio as the length of my chin was ok. I am thankful

that all the plates and screws meant bands only and no wiring, but

getting cold is almost unbearable now. Everything wants to lock up.

I can't imagine being able to eat at 1 week. That is great!

potaters? Where are you from? I thought we southerners were the

only one who spoke like that.

What kind of surgery did you have with such a speedy recovery?

Maybe you can go back to your normal lifestyle quickly.

I worked out in the gym for the 1st time today since my surgery and

I am already feeling it.

I am six weeks post op from upper surgery. I was given the ok to eat

soft foods after one week too. I ate a lot of olive garden's

fettucini alfredo and breadsticks torn into small pieces. You can do

mashed potaoes, meatloaf, pancakes, and scrambled eggs. Each week I

would try something a little harder. At six weeks I eat whatever I

want except I haven't tried a steak yet. I figured I would wait

another two weeks for that. I believe working my jaw muscles as soon

as I did as speeded up my recovery. I saw the os today and my

opening measured 42mm. I was 47mm before surgery. Good luck.
