Gayle, I was anemic 2 weeks after my surgery, while still in the hospital. I believe that the number 12 is the normal level, so the iron supplements should help (although I'm not a medical person so have no expertise). My ferritin number was 6 and I was considered severely anemic & had to have 4 pts. of blood and shots for the next 3 months at home. IMHO, yes, the anemia could account for your fatigue and lack of concentration, but I hope you brought it to your PCP's attention, just in case there is another problem to consider.
