I know there has been discussion in the past about the appearance of

the nose after upper surgery. I have read about the changes of the

nose by past posters and had a questions for anyone who experienced

this.

I am 5 days post op and when I woke up from surgery I had something

coming out the side of my nose that I thought was stiches. I asked

my OS about it and he said yes it is a stich going in on one side

and the nose and coming out the other side of the nose. I of course

asked why, and he told me it helped keep the nose in place and the

with upper you are moving everything around your nose and it can

change the appearance, so he stiches it in place. Has anyone else

had their OS do this? I hope it works, because I liked my nose

before. I guess time will only tell.

Thanks,

Funny you should ask about the stitch. Wish I had read your post

before my surgery in June, I would've been a little more prepared

for my experience. A week or two after surgery, I saw what I

thought was dried blood stuck to some nose hairs, and I started

picking at it. It was very tender like when you've wiped your nose

too many times and it gets raw. I kept picking and picking, and it

wouldn't budge. Finally, it was bugging me so much that I took

tweezers and tried to pull it. Well, that thing kept coming and

coming. It was about an inch long. I just about passed out seeing

it come out. I saved it and asked me surgeon about it. She said

that it was used to cinch my nose together.

As for the apperarance of the nose, mine did get wider, but luckily,

I started out with a narrow nose. I feel like my nose looks way

bigger, but most people say that it looks smaller. I think that is

due to the fact that I have a genioplasty and my profile is more

balanced.

Glad to hear that you're doing well!

My nose wasn't stitched, but thankfully, it didn't go anywhere. I

like my nose too. It's probably the only feature that I would not

change if I could. I think there is a little more distance between

my upper lip and nose, though.

I have been reading your posts and am glad things are going better

for you. My hubby was pretty good about taking care of me, but the

house looked like a wreck after about a week. He's not much good in

that area. I guess they all they their good and bad points.

Others have had it. I did not. I believe that it's called an Alar

stitch (or at least some types of it are). You might try an archive

search here, or even a Google search and see what turns up...

I have had alot of tenderness on the right side of my nose and the

os said it is from the stiches they use to hold the nose in place

while it heals. I had more work done on the right so I have more

scar tissue there that will eventually soften with time. I noticed a

nice change to my nose after surgery. My nose was very narrow I

hardley had nostril openings and now my nose is a smidgen more

wider. I think it goes well with the new jaw profile.

The only thing I noticed is that my nostrils are bigger and I have two little

red dots under my nose. I am not sure where they came from. Maybe it is from

where they put the tube or oxygen or something. But they won't go away. They

were not there before surgery. Kind of weird.
