Guest guest
Hello! I am considering having Gastric Bypass surgery. I am currently going through the steps to go through with the surgery. Just trying to find as much information as I possibly can. Am alittle nervous about it but I know that it is something I must do. I was also wondering if anyone had hypothyroidism prior to the surgery and how that affected them if any due to surgery? Also how has the change affected your family, how is it with your eating habits so differing to theirs? Thanks I truly appericate all the info I can get and look forward to posting here! I also have hypothyroidism and it didn't affect me at all during or after surgery. However, my pcp had to adjust my synthroid level and will have to be watched a little more carefully because of the rapid weight loss. But that isn't a big deal. You also asked how it affects your family, and mine, they didn't want me to have it. I have 2 small boys and a hubby and he was very against this, but I told him I was doing this anyway. My mom and sister also felt the same way he did. But now, after 79 lbs lost since surgery and 101 lbs. in total. My mom is very proud and happy for me and hubby is to, but he wishes I hadn't put myself in danger. I can tell you that everything that you have to go through, in the end it is so worth it. My eating habits are much better than they used to be. I can't eat really sweet things, they just taste so disgusting and I don't feel left out when the rest of the family are eating stuff like that. Sugar-free popsicles are my new best friend, they have the crunch and the flavor that really hit the spot when you're in a snacky mood. I hope this helps, and sorry I got too long with it. I just love talking about it, it's totally changed me, I love it. Good luck, Virginia Post-op 9/30/03 323/222/
