Guest guest
So its finally here one week! I just have a few questions, for i am trying to prepare myself as much as i can for this. First of all I am having lower advancement and geneoplasty. If anyone else has had this same operation and have before and after pictures can you please leave your user name or where i can find them?!... because there are LOTS of pictures and im really interested in seeing results specifically from this surgery. Also what is a Splint?.. my OS took impressions for it the other day but was in a rather irritable mood (bc my ortho. was supposed to do that but refused) Anyway i didnt get to ask him questions about it. what was the best way for about a week post-op to eat? Im just wondering if i should go out and purchase any special bottle or whatever you used. Thank You In Advance, Kriston

Guest guest
Hello, A splint is like a retainer on the roof of your mouth. I have one because I have a hole in the roof of my mouth because he opened up my pallet. I can do stupid human tricks because of this by putting spaghetti in my nose and making it come out of my mouth. The OS said that if I did not heal, he would do another operation to heal me (outpatient) As far as eating goes, your throat will be really sore the first few days. You will be in the hospital with an IV for at least 2 days. As soon as you prove you can drink on your own, you can go home. I was determined because I wanted to go home. I drank from a syringe that I shot into my mouth. I have heard the Zip n Squeeze they advertise on this website are really good. You don't have to suck like with a straw (which I still cannot do even after 4 weeks) After a few days, I was able to eat soft foods because I was not wired. If you are wired, you are on liquids for a while. Mashed potatoes, yams, salisbury steak ground up into really small pieces, oatmeal, maltomeal, eggs, cottage cheese, crushed fruit, yogurt, stuff like that. Good luck! Guest guest
I suppose that there are splints, and there are splints. Mine was nothing like a retainer -- much harder plastic, much less moveable. I had lower work only, though, which may have made a difference. And I don't think most folks wind up with a hole in the roof of their mouths -- Only remember hearing of this in very specialized situations, before. I don't think I'd be doing the spaghetti number, but hey -- if that turns you on, and your doc doesn't disapprove, go for it! I was in the hospital from 12:01 a.m. Tuesday until about 1 p.m. Wednesday. but as I said, only for lower advancement. Others need more time, for one reason or many. And it is usual, I think, in many other parts of the world than the U.S. to keep patients for a week or, occasionally, more. And the good news is that you can make soup out of almost anything, and blend it (or food process it) to the thinnest liquid you can imagine, with enough diluting fluids. Guest guest
Hello Cammie, It is a joke about the spaghetti. I really can do it, but I wouldn't even try. Almost everything I eat comes out my nose. The doc said he had to open up my upper so much that I may need another operation to close up the " hole " My upper jaw was really really really small. The hygenist always mentioned that I had a small mouth. I have about two more weeks with the spling and then if my " hole " does not heal, he will do another operation to do it. He said he does not remember the last time he had to do it and he has been doing this for 20 years. So I am an unusual case. But, it is healing and I am hoping and praying that it heals in two weeks. But the operation is just minor (outpatient) so I am not too worried about it. Also, Cammie, you are an inspiration. I really love reading the e mails you post here. Thank you! Guest guest
You are sweet, Shauna. I had all the terrors anybody could have, about every step of these procedures... I was way too old, way too scared, etc., etc., etc. But I had a really easy passage through it all, mainly because both my ortho and my surgeon are so skilled and experienced. So I count myself most fortunate throughout all this stuff. I, too, have a small, crowded mouth. Still -- but it's better than it was before. I'm hoping you won't need more surgery to get that fissure closed! C. > Hello Cammie, > It is a joke about the spaghetti. I really can do it, but I wouldn't even try. Guest guest
Hey thanks. You made me smile (although it still feels weird to smile.) My face is still learning about the muscles and it twitches a bit when I smile. But it gets better each day! > > From: ceast36532 <no_reply > > Date: 2004/11/28 Sun PM 01:12:01 GMT > To: orthognathicsurgerysupport > Subject: Re: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Final Countdown.. 1 Week > >
