Hey AJ -- great site! And it looks like you're a San Franciscan. Me

too! I'm going in on Wednesday for surgery to correct my underbite

and I can only hope I end up looking as fabulous as you.

AJ,

nice page. Glad to hear everything went well for you. You look

great. I am 19 days post op and still waiting for the swelling to

go down, but over all everything seems to be going well for me also.

Thanks for the kind words Maddie and . You guys will soon be

over and done with, and it will all be a distant memory.

But Maddie, how did you know I am a San Franciscan? And who is doing

the surgery and ortho work?

I just assumed when I saw your Bay to Breakers t-shirt!

My ortho is at UCSF and my surgeons are at Kaiser Oakland. How about

you?

Very astute of you Maddie! Yeah, I went ahead and ran the Bay to

Breakers a few weeks prior to the surgery, so it was the new t-shirt

in my drawer at the time.

As for my doctors, my ortho was Dr. Cucalon (on Union Street), and my

surgeon was Dr. Dann in the east bay. I can't say enough good things

about Dann--he is the mann!

Best of luck with the surgery Maddie...I'm sure you'll do great!

Thanks Casey,

I'm glad I could provide some entertainment. The few days after the

surgery are pretty miserable (as I'm sure you are aware). However,

once you get through those days, things start turning around very

quickly. Being cleared to eat is the biggest turning point. Once you

can get solid food in you, it's like night and day. Oh, and getting

bugers sucked out of your nose is about the best feeling in the world!

I may have to invest in one of those things now!

Best of luck with the surgery--I'm sure it will be a breeze!

Hey AJ,

you look great! I believe you were also part of the June surgery group

(?), as was I. Also got my braces off last week, what a relief

(although I can't complain, being only in them for 6 months). What

kind of retainer do you have? Mine (Hawley) needs some adjusting I

think, I already see some shifts (or is it my imagination) of my front

teeth. I'll see my ortho next week so he can also take a look at the

final result. I too should post pictures, haven't had time for it

again last weekend (shame on me!) but I'll make another attempt next

weekend.

Good luck with your new smile!

Hey nathalie,

Yeah, I was a member of the June surgery group...good memory!

Congrats on getting the braces off...what a difference! As for my

retainer, I just have the normal retainer (not sure what it is

called). It is just pink plastic shaped to the back of my teeth,

with a wire holding a clear piece of plastic shaped to the front of

my teeth. Though they said I am getting an " active retainer, " it

just doesnt seem like they gave me one. I ordered the clear plastic

(invisalign) type retainer, which they'll get together in a few

months or so. I had extra flex dollars that needed to be spent, so I

figured why not. The only pain is the plastic piece on the roof of

the mouth...makes it hard to talk, which sucks at work.

But I've noticed a few shifts in my teeth as well...I think that is

unavoidable, unfortunately. But, I would definitely bring it up with

the ortho.

Anyways, thanks for the kind words, and enjoy some baby back ribs and

corn on the cob for me!

Hi, AJ!

As you might recall, I'm also a June surgery buddy of yours, and a

fellow Bay Area resident. You look fabulous! Glad to see that you

are doing so well. I should be getting my braces off in about 2

months, and I can't wait. Congratulations and take care!

Shayna,

Of course I remember. How is your recovery proceeding?

And only 2 months for the braces to be off! I'm sure you are

literally counting the days at this point.

But thanks for the compliment, and keep me posted on your progress!
