Guest guest
I am 5 weeks post op from upper/lower surgery. I had a Le Forte III osteotomy and BSSO to re-align midline. My ortho has noticed my lower jaw has " slipped " a little so my midline is off a few mm. He has added new hooks onto my braces and told me each night at bed to place an elastic on these hooks. The top hook is next to eye tooth on the right hand side and the second hook is way over to the left on the bottom teeth. Therefore, this elastic is using pressure from my upper jaw to pull my lower jaw back over to correct the midline. Now, here is my problem. During my entire recovery I had nothing to complain about in the pain department.... well until now. Once I put my elastics in, I am in pain. The pain is so bad I cannot sleep, pain killers only last 30 mins if i'm lucky and it really hurts on one side when I swallow. I know this is something I need to do but it's getting quite intolerable. I'm beginning to wonder if this is normal. My ortho did say everything is healing as it should, I have great symmetry, no new swelling and no indications of infection. So, what I'd like to know is has anyone else experienced this or anything close to this? I really don't know what to expect, or if I should be doing better as I'm nearing 6 weeks. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch in advance, Mel

Guest guest
If you are in that much pain, I would call your ortho and let him know. My ortho was very careful to slow things down any time there was sign of pain. > > I am 5 weeks post op from upper/lower surgery. I had a Le Forte III > osteotomy and BSSO to re-align midline.
