Hey ,

I had upper and genio surgery Nov. 17 and am doing as well as

expected, I think. I was in the hospital only one night, but I

would say if they will let you stay more then one night I would.

the first night in the hospital was fine, but the next night (when I

was home) was the worst night of the whole ordeal. I started

vomiting with the pain meds and then didn't want to eat because I

was nauseous. The Dr. changed my pain meds the next day and gave me

something for the nausea and then I was fine. I was off the pain med

a week after the surgery.

As for now I still have some swelling in the middle of my face, but

other than that I am eating soft foods (yogurt, pudding, mashed

potatoes, macaroni and cheese) and all seems to be going well.

The first couple of days are the hardest.

I had upper surgery on Nov 18 - all has gone very well.

I spent one night in the hospital, but was raring to go home that next

morning.

I did not need to go to ICU.

My nasogastric tube didn't bother me nearly as much as the tape that

was holding it in place; it was removed five hours after I left recovery.

I did not need a catheter - surgery lasted about 1.5 hours.

I did not need a transfusion - only lost a unit of blood.

I did not vomit - never felt at all nauseous.

The worst part was the pain from being banded shut right out of

surgery - my teeth were clenched so tight even the morphine couldn't

quell the pain. But, it did lessen as that first day went on. My

surgeon removed the tightest bands before sending me home - quite a

relief.

The first week was only slightly miserable. If I had known that my

surgeon was going to ease up on the banding and permit me to eat soft

foods after the first week, I don't think that first week would have

been as bad. As it was, that first post-up visit to the surgeon was a

delightful surprise, just in time for Thanksgiving.

I was surprised that I suffered neither energy nor weight loss. This

whole time, I've felt quite my usual self, aside from the omnipresent

annoyance of the facial swelling and numbness. I went back to work the

Monday after Thanksgiving - all has gone well.

I know I've been extremely fortunate - but, apparently, it IS possible

to have a good experience.

I guess it is different for everyone. I was only in overnight, but I

was happy to go home. My mother was at my house waiting and took

great care of me. I couldn't wait to get back to the room I had fixed

up for myself. I had a recliner and a body pillow and lots of comort

things , my teddybear,( and I'm 36) my favorite pajamas, a TV etc. I

got home on Friday and barely came out of my room until Sunday

morning.

Of course I had very little naseau and was only loosely banded.
