Guest guest
I have a former teeth grinder. Oh, how I hated listening to it! It made my spine crawl. But the way Max was taught to stop it is really owed to his speech therapist. She helped him deal with it and put it to an end. I don't know how she did it, but I'm so glad she did. Oh - I know we were told to make Max aware of when he was doing it - just a gentle reminder. She said that he was unaware and that awareness would help. I wish I had more to offer you. Jodi Z. Guest guest
Thanks Jodi I know what you mean about spine crawl. I can hear it at night in the next room and what with her snoring it is amazing how someone so little can make so much noise. I will see what the dentist has to say - I still never know what to attribute to Lily's growth issues. For example Lily has quite a noticeable vein that runs diagonally from the corner of her mouth to her chin. The skin on top of it always looks bumpy, almost as if she has scuffed it. I think (bless her!) that her whole jaw is a bit strange as she seems to switch from overbiting to underbiting (I wonder if jaws can be hyper extensible too?). All this probably contributes to the teeth grinding as her bite must be out. Hopefully the dentist will shed some light on all of this. I hadn't linked it to RSS until I read that nutritional issues can cause it. Michele > I have a former teeth grinder. Oh, how I hated listening to it! > It made my spine crawl. Guest guest
Hi Joanne Nice to hear from you too ... you were the first person I met with another petite one and it was such a relief. I hope Christian is doing well. Lily is fine thanks - she was six a couple of weeks ago. We are still very reliant on Paediasure and spend too much time in hospital but generally Lily is happy and reasonably healthy. Paediasure was something I learned about from this list too - Lily never liked the juice drinks and none of our doctors had heard of it. School was a bit tough at first, possibly more so when she went into Year One and lots of the other children told her she was smaller than the Reception children. She (and I) toughened up pretty quickly and learned how to be assertive - for example how to say she didn't want to be the baby in role play everytime. Lily now understands that you don't have to be tall to be grown up. I'd stopped noticing how petite she is myself until we just got her class photo. Lily just hit 25lbs but was down to 20 in January when she was poorly so 25 seems good to me. We've never been in the running for gh as her BMI is far too low. I think that's about it. If you ever visit Colchester zoo please let me know as we are only about a mile away and I'd love to repay your hospitality. Guest guest
Lily, My son, too was a tooth grinder, when he was much younger. I have never heard the theory about being related to nutritional problems/hypoglycemia. Of course, at the time, I didn't know he was hypoglycemic, despite having many of the physical signs. I used to always tell to stop grinding his teeth, which would only work for the moment. He actually stopped doing this on his own. Looking back, I always attributed this to OCD/anxiety issues, as has had many horrible habits over the years including teeth grinding, nail/skin picking, and hair pulling. Now after reading your e-mail, I am not so sure it was an OCD thing. Kim C. > Hi > > Long time no posting .... I'm just wondering how many of you have > tooth grinders out there. Guest guest
Out of curiousity do you remember if during the day he would overlap his bottom teeth (over the top ones)? Guest guest
Luckily, I'm not going to wired, but only banded shut after my surgery. My problem is that I have really bad root resorption and I tend to grind and clench my teeth at night. I do all kinds of weird things with my jaw while I'm sleeping. I'm worried about doing these same kinds of things when I'm asleep after my surgery. Won't putting that kind of strain on my roots while I'm banded be harmful? I can just imagine myself trying to grind while I'm banded but not being able to move anything. ouch! Any thoughts?
