I don't think I have yet posted any messages, though I read all the

postings daily. My surgery date is set for June 1st. I am excited,

anxious, and scared to death all at once. To add to the frustration,

I am a transit driver in the twin cities, MN, and we went on strike

at 2am this morning. I was not planning an extra unpaid vacation.

Fortunately, my boyfriend is very supportive and helpful in every

way. Also, quite a few of my co-workers have had the surgery, some

as recent as 4 months, some as long as 4 yrs...and all a success. :)

I just wanted to share some of my experiences and opinions regarding

some of the postings I have read.

As for the Opn/Lap discussion, my insurance will not cover Lap, as

they consider it to be experimental. This is no big deal for me, as

my surgeon will not perform Lap anyways. He stated, as I have read

thru many other messages, that it is best to be open, to see what

you are up against, and it narrows the chance of other

complications. I am happy to be having the surgery in any case. To

me, aside from the recovery time, the only other advantage to Lap is

the amount of scar.

As for pregnancy, post-op, one of the women in my support group got

pregnant 6 months post-op and had a very healthy baby, though they

said she was very lucky. The docs and nurses here suggest 18-24

months. I too, have battled with infertility for years, though I

dont know how much of it is attributable to weight. I had 3

miscarriages in 18 months, presumably due to undiagnosed diabetes.

My boyfriend and I have talked about it, and have decided not

to " try " until at least 9 months post-op. I will be going on the

pill in the mean time.

I am currently 5'9 " tall, weigh 306, and wear size 26. My goal

weight is around 160, and I hope to be a comfortable size 10-12 when

I get there (my size before my son was conceived 17 1/2 yrs ago).
