Guest guest
I came across this group and very impressed with the knowledge and good support going on in here. Let me let ya'll know on my situation so i can get some help and ANY will do SERIOUSLY. The first thing ive done is the palate expander, ive worn it for about 1 month now, i can see improvement on my right, infact the right is perfectly aligned but my left side of the jaw is narrow from the start and this is why i need the surgery or so my dentist says so. I need my wisdom teeth removed below so that'll happen and this surgery which im informed will correct my crossbite and yeah that perfect arch is formed. She was like might as well do both of them at the same time. Now whats going to happen to me after this surgery, im aware of the basics and all that, still researching as much as i can but is this combination going to be severe such as the swelling, i mean i want to go to classes so ill be swollen depending on my characteristics but an estimate and extended info would be WELCOME. thanks a lot. Guest guest
Hi, I had the palate expander put in on the 1st Dec, and then had SARPE on the 3rd Dec. I also had my wisdom teeth out and one other tooth (which was a mutant located behind the others). I'm 34, so I needed the surgery for the expander to work. They op was day surgery - I arrived at 9:45 and my wife picked me up at about 13:30. I am now halfway through the expansion. I think the worst part of it all has been having the metal expander and trying to talk (particularly for the first week or so) - but I've found that I can speak reasonably well now (but with a significant and annoying lisp). I was happy to get my wisdom teeth out at the same time - they used to get infected every month or so, and I didn't want to have two dental operations. My swelling (which was mainly from where the wisdom teeth were) was almost gone in four days. People don't notice the swelling now (10 days later). They only notice a difference when I open my mouth and they see the gap between my front teeth (my jaw is being expanded 1.1 cm, and it's about halfway there). I couldn't eat much for the first week, but I can eat fairly well now (mainly soups, soft cheese and yogurt, nothing too chewy). I do get pain about an hour after turning the expander and sometimes wake up with pain - but this is managable. I was also told not to do weights or play contact sport for three months after the surgery, which is frustrating, but it's worth it. Hope this helps and best of luck.
