Thanks for the tip. I will buy some tomorrow.

I am having Fresh Direct Lobster soup for my Xmas Dinner!

I am still not doing too well on sleep, now necause I am getting lots

of tingles etc. But mostly because I sleep on my stomach normally and

sleeping elevated on by back doesn't get me off.

I saw the OS today and he took me through basic exercises for my lips

(it's grimacing really) so as to increase mobility. I am still on

iron as I feel a bit feeble. Today I felt more depressed than before

but largely, except for the OS, I didn't go out as NYC is frozen and

with braces etc, the cold is not pleasant.

I wish all of us December surgeries a great Christmas. I think we

need to post coping strategies for watching our nearest and dearest

eating too much!!

Hey Casey,

Yeah, I've noticed I sleep a lot more, and get tired a lot faster

these days. I went shopping with my mom for about 4 hours today and

was exhausted when we got home, which is pretty unnatural for me. And

there was no good reason for that as I slept about 9 hours last

night!

Thankfully it's winter break for me for the next month or so, so I

have the time to just relax when my body tells me it needs to.

I see my OS tomorrow, will keep you all posted!

Hey ,

I live in frigid Wisconsin, so I know all about the cold not being

pleasant. I find it hard to breathe outside when it's really cold

out. I think because the air is so dry. I still find it a lot easier

to breath in my house (where we have a humidifier going all the time)

than in places with no humidifier.

Lip exercises...interesting! While we were out today I had a thought

of getting a smoothie from a coffee shop, but I still am not able to

use a straw, due to limited lip mobility. Plus there was the fear

there would be " chunks " in the smoothie that would get stuck all

over, and that I could potentially choke on. Just an ugly scene in my

imagination, so I picked up a snapple instead!

One day we will be able to enjoy all of our normal things again...

I have to say I have been really lucky with not having any problems

at all to date with congestion. I know that is not the norm.

I haven't got a humidifier but I have used a heat pad and moist

flannel from coming hime and that helps. I have not really used

Afrin (once) as my OS said that it has diminishing returns so I have

saved it for when I may really need it.

Shopping for 4 hours is quite an achievement. I hope you played the

sympathy card and got something out of it! Last night I got 6 hours

sleep almost, the most I have had for over 2 weeks.

I saw my OS yesterday and he was very happy with results. I was a bit

worried that the top midline was " off centre " but he showed me that I

am just being distracted by the fact that my lips are recovering in a

really uneven way!

Good luck with your visit. I see mine next thursday by which time I

will be more than half way through the wiring stage...!

Ok, I have a really silly question: Does anyone have any tips for

cleaning the strainer once you've poured the soup through it? Its

such a gross process and I don't think I'm doing a good job. Even

when I run it through the dishwasher it doesn't look 100% clean when

it comes out. Any advice would be appreciated...

For all of those who are wired or banded -- I have kind of a funny

story sort of about watching people overindulge, or at least talk

about it. Because everyone at the surgery center really did such a

great job and took such good care of me, I sent a box of Godiva

chocolates to the office. Well, I was at my first post-op OS

appointment yesterday and the first surgery assistant says " oh my,

those chocolates were SO good, we got them just in time for lunch

today. Thanks so much " . The second one comes in and says " I am so

STUFFED from eating so much of those chocolates that you sent today,

yum yum. " And then the OS himself comes in and says " Colleen, what a

great lunch I had today, I just love Godiva chocolates " , so then

they all start talking about them. Then the doc says, " just thinking

about them is making me want to go eat another one. I'm going to

have one as soon as I leave this room. " Finally I couldn't take it

anymore and I said " Well, in six or eight weeks I, too, will be able

to eat chocolates. " Everyone in the room laughed, but also got kind

of quiet and never mentioned them again. Of course they absolutely

100% didn't mean anything at all by it and were just being very

nice, but it just shows that even the professionals don't realize

that we just don't want to hear about other people eating

chocolates, you know?!?

Since I am already writing about chocolate...today I got a Vermont

Teddy Bear in the mail that says Get Well Soon and even has a

bandage on her chin, she is very adorable. AND, she is holding a

chocolate bear in a little bag in her hand and I just keep wishing I

could eat that chocolate bear. I'm not even really a chocolate

person, I guess its just that I can't eat it - sigh. Just thought

I'd share with you all.

What I do which seems to work is: use the sprayer from the sink and

turn the strainer upside down, so the water hits the back of it, and

the gook goes in the sink.

hope that works!!!

Excellent story, Colleen!

I am definitely a chocolate person, and thankfully remembered a tip I

read on this board a long time ago that may be of use to others who

are banded like myself. Someone recommended buying chocolate chips,

because they are small enough to be able to pop in your mouth, and

they melt relatively quickly without any chewing at all. I love them!

Have my little bag of semi-sweet morsels all the time :)

Just thought I'd share :)
