Guest guest
This is a very commonly discussed problem here. My take is that when you lose a couple hundred pounds of tissue, your hormones are going to change. With testosterone, the normal range is something like 10-700. I know from personal experience, I had no libido after WLS. My testosterone levels were within the normal range. I started supplementing under medical supervision and it came back big time. The testosterone still tested *well* within the normal range. With such a huge range, who can tell what's normal for any of us? I'd get the opinion of a second medical source, one that's more open to hormone supplementation. in Austin RNY April 1998 Low libido solutions? > Does anyone have any suggestions for increasing libido? My doctor did some testing and everything looked " normal " . My self image is better than ever, I have a wonderful marriage, so it's not a " head " thing. Any ideas?>> My libido rampaged from about age 34 - 40. After surgery, it left for about a year, and since then has tended to wax and wane. My own experience is that the more sexually active I am, the more my libido increases. Kind of like if I let things go dormant, they'll stay dormant. Our solution has been to fall back on a " 1950's " type solution. We scheduled sex nights. At first I was quite reluctant to do this, thinking that sex and desire should be spontaneous. But, it has really helped. Four nights a week we are intimate; three nights a week we aren't, unless I am particularly ramped up and want to initiate an extra night (did I mention that my husband's libido has really skyrocketed since his surgery, so we had quite a bit of negotiation for our timing!) something about knowing we've got a night planned makes me more aroused; something about knowing that on the " off " nights there will be no pressure or expectations leaves me feeling relaxed. It's really working out so well for us. By the way, we've also scheduled 2 - 3 times per week to spend an hour talking about our relationship. What's going right, what's going wrong, what would we like to do, what do we hate that we are doing, how has our childhood impacted our adult relationships, what interesting reading have we done that might be pertinent. This is also working out well (and has also served to ramp up my libido). Kate
