Guest guest
I am 35 years old, and I think I have " Long Face Syndrome " [Long, narrow face, 'gummy smile', hard to close my lips] After having braces as a teenager, I was dissapointed to realize that my teeth still continued to " move " (spread out) unless I wore my retainer at night. Now roughly 18 years later, I am still wearing the retainers (it's so depressing sometimes). Does anyone out there have a similar experience/history prior to their surgery? I am going to see a surgeon hopefully soon to see whether surgery is an option for me.

Guest guest
For whatever it's worth, I don't have the same set of problems you started out with. But to take away my retainers, you'd have to pry them out of my cold, dead, um, mouth! I expect to use them for the rest of my life -- I'm 59 now -- and figure that's a small price to pay for keeping what I and my ortho worked so hard to make happen. Guest guest
Hi When I first talked to my OD about correcting my bite, I was told that he could fix it somewhat with braces, but my teeth would never be stable unless I had surgery as well. I have an open bite, so maybe that's the reason why? Anyhow, who knows, maybe I'll need a retainer for years and years after surgery anyhow, but the idea is that my teeth won't want to move around as much after my bite is corrected. Your case sounds a bit different, but I just thought I'd share my experience. - > > I am 35 years old, and I think I have " Long Face Syndrome " > [Long, narrow face, 'gummy smile', hard to close my lips] > After having braces as a teenager, I was dissapointed to realize > that my teeth still continued to " move " (spread out) unless I wore > my retainer at night. Guest guest
i completely agree with Cammie, i will wear my retainers FAITHFULLY as instructed by my OS. i am still in braces and will be for several more months. HOWEVER, this is my third time in braces, i am 41 years old and 6 months post surgery. I too had long face, gummy smile and hard to close mouth, all corrected with surgery. biggest mistake i made way back when was not wearing my retainers in college and thereafter. BIG mistake. i will not let my new investment be ruined by losing or not wearing them again! > > I am 35 years old, and I think I have " Long Face Syndrome " > [Long, narrow face, 'gummy smile', hard to close my lips] > After having braces as a teenager, I was dissapointed to realize > that my teeth still continued to " move " (spread out) unless I wore > my retainer at night.
