I don't know what Corrine said, but it must be misunderstood. Corrine is

Realizing that I may have my entire body flamed, my tongue cut out,

my fingers broken, and my keyboard burned, I will bring this up

anyway. It seems to me there is alot of obsessing about food. I

know we need to be aware of what we eat, when, and how much, but

must it be my life? I have stopped drinking...27 years, stopped

smoking, 23 years, and stopped coffee, 19 years. These things are

NOT part of my life, I do not think about them, and feel as tho I am

living well. If I gave time to them in my mind, I would want them,

I suppose. When people talk about drinking aand flavors and tastes,

I go somewhere else, or if it is one to one, I change the subject.

If they figure out why, fine, if not, fine. If they ask, fine.

Tobacco? Who would want to be around someone smoking? YUK! Coffee?

sometimes smells good, but does terrible things to my teeth...which

I am paying $350 to bleach before getting two new crowns in front,

aside from being too addictive for me. Many years ago in OA the

rule was no talk about food, which seemed so restrictive and false.

I think there is a moderate place, a place where food istalked

about, but as part of a normal converstation, not a recitation of

ingestion. yes, I know about the current 3 day protein thingy going

on...that's not what my focus is. Corrine

But, ya see, it's easy to cut out the alcohol, the cigs, etc.... You do NOT

need these things to live, you do, however, need food.....I think this is

why there is such a problem with food.... Ya can't just cut it out of your

life totaly like ya can with the other stuff.... It's an issue and I think

will always be an issue with most of us..

Corrine, I am not sure what your point was here - do you object to the obsessing

about food on a gastric bypass list?

I think it's terrific that you are not obsessed, and that food is not the major

player in your life. But it is in mine, and I pretty much figure this is one of

the places to come to discuss it. I make no apologies for it, and have no

intention of stopping (unless of course one of the moderators tells me too, in

which case I'll go obsess on another group <g>).

For what it's worth, I clearly recall being pre-op and reading these lists and

thinking it so odd that all these people had surgery to cure their obesity, and

yet all they could talk about was food. It doesn't seem so odd anymore.

Absolutely positively correct randy - it has even been proven that a heroine

addict has a far better chance of overcoming his addiction than any dieter

will ever gain control of overeating.

we know diets work for only 5% of the people, yet heroine addicts have a 65%

of complete recovery. thats a huge difference.
