Guest guest
, Hmmm..... a long, long time. We started occluding last March, all day, everyday until about October. This was hampered because of a week long holliday where I didn't force the occluding and the pesky ear switched back so I feel that it would have been done by July had we persevered and maintained the course. Because Mark had such severe dominance & ear issues, we continue to occlude it for 2 hours per day to ensure that it sticks. It has though and his function is simply so much better with all of the work we have done on those ears. I anticipate that we will be done completely with occluding by February. (our next NACD evaluation) Stick with it.... There was a point where I had to grow out Mark's hair because he didn't want anyone to see the earplug. You may want to think of doing this as well. It covers up the ear and avoids all of the questions. He sported a nice Rod haircut which everyone thought was cool. Janice Mother of Mark, 13 [sPAM][ ] Re: Listening Programs? Hi Janice - How long did it take to switch dominance? My son is currently occluding one of his ears. Thanks, > > > > > > TLP is now available with bone conduction stuff. Guest guest
Janice, Did you have to occlude his eye, too? We have occlusion of the left eye on 's new program for FOUR HOURS PER DAY / SEVEN DAYS PER WEEK! That is literally every waking moment he is at home. I am trying to think of a great reward system to motivate him. Any thoughts? in NJ
Guest guest
Man that is rough. I think you are going to have to make the rewards big and set up a point system (boardwalk trip for 2 weeks compliance, etc. > > Janice, > > Did you have to occlude his eye, too? Guest guest
, No, fortunately we had no eye occluding and Mark's visual processing has always been great. It is wonderful that you have caught 's eye issues sooooo young! Rewards for 'happy' program compliance for our family generally involves the latest and greatest video game! Mark 'hates' dyspraxia. The more we do NACD program, the better he gets. So.... he generally is pretty compliant with regards to the neurological aspects of program. It is the math that we tend to squirm out of! It is funny. Our kids are really tough and they really, really desparately want to be like other kids. Mark getting better has been a huge motivator. Being able to do NT things and to fit in with the other kids has been a biggie. To understand that your ears are not working and this is why you are having troubles but if we work your ears, these troubles will go away.... has been all Mark needed to do all of his program. I am the one who needs a motivator... a trip to the spa, perhaps? But, then, Mark has really suffered the emotional consequences of dyspraxia. He has been singled out, bullied and had to realize that he is 'different'. I want none of our children to go through that pain! It is aweful. Janice [sPAM]Re:[ ] Re: Listening Programs?
