Hi -I'm a 20 year old student in NY city and have " long face syndrome. " I have

been

talking to different surgeons and want to know if anyone has recommendations

about

doctors in my area. Also, my wrists were x-rayed to make sure my growth plates

have

closed, but I have been told that there is no guarantee that I won't have

another growth

spurt. Does anyone have any thoughts about whether this is a good age to do the

surgery? I would like to do it this summer and be done with all wires and

braces by the

time I graduate college. Thanks.

Dan,

I'm new to this board and am planning to have the surgery, too. I'm 18 and have

been told

that it's okay at this age: I first saw a doctor about my jaw when I was 14 and

have been

having periodic check-ups since then. I haven't grown for a year now and my

plates have

closed. I think that if you haven't grown in height for a year, you are

probably safe. If

you're worried, maybe you should talk to another doctor and/or wait another 6

months to

make sure you don't grow any more.

Good luck.

Rick
