Guest guest
I'll admit, I created a lot of active discussion on the wiring issue. Obviously, my feelings about the subject are my opinion, influenced to a large extent by discussions with three different OS's who are pretty much in the " anti-wiring " group. But here's the real bottom line. The purpose of boards such as this is to inform and support. Although there is a lot of active posting, there is no doubt a large group of people out there who read this board who are contemplating these types of surgeries and are looking for answers. For many people, myself included, I have valued the accounts of patients' experiences and opinions on ultimately making the final choices for my own surgeries. These have included pallete, lower advance/rotation , two genioplasties, a chin implant that didn't work out, a major chest surgery to correct a very severe case of pectus excavatum, a secondary procedure to place an implant in the uncorrected part of my chest, and two separate ACL reconstructions. With the exception of my first jaw surgery, internet discussion groups provided me with the greatest overall exposure to information on these procedures. Suffice to say, although I liked reading the positve postings, it was the negative ones that made me do some extra cautious research and helped me know what type of questions to ask a surgeon during consultations.
