Guest guest
Ben, You don't say where you are. I had upper, lower and genio done (after a year's ortho). I spent quite some time researching surgeons but in the end, I found I had to get an opinion/consult from them to build confidence. I have to say that one surgeon fell aaway because I found his whole office a mess and unprofessionally run! The important thing for me was to " feel " the trust that i would have in this person. I had three meetings with surgeons, including the Head of the Faculty at Columbia in NY (who then accepted a job in Atlanta suggesting that I move there for the op (this after some considerable expense!!)). In the end, I am very happy with my NY choice. One important thing though. My view is that you need high levels of collaboration between your orthodontist and your OS. So finding a proven team is worthwhile. I started off on this via my dentist (the 3rd part of the team) who gave me options/recommendations. In the end, I used the orthodontist who straightened my surgeon's teeth as an adult. I felt it proved they talked! Like most surgeries, there are risks and he is right to define them. Recovery (from reading this board) is individual and so all generalisations are wrong. But despite the time to recover 100% what you will find here is a real endorsement of the surgery. I had mine done not for cosmetic but functional reasons (i think almost always there are functional benefits - this is my way of saying I won't benefit from the life-changing transformation in appearance that some people have here (though a few pounds off never hurts!)). i am in the thick of recovery now (day 11) and it's miserable in some ways. But I have faith. I would ask around your area, consult your dentist, meet a few people and (assuming you need orthodontics firts which most people seem to), follow a few leads from your OD. If you are in NYC, I am happy to recommend my surgeon (who has people coming from the UK etc to be operated on by him). I did pay for quite a lot of the cost, but i don't think money is the determinant here. > > I need to have my upper and lower jaw done. Guest guest
, Would you be willing to provide the name of your surgeon. I did ask once before, but you never replied. As you can see from my signature, I am in the NYC area. Thanks, Bklyn > > > > I need to have my upper and lower jaw done. Had a consult with an > > oral surgeon and he went through what to expect. Guest guest
He is called Dr Hauser, 101 E 79th street. I would (I did!) if I were you and it was possible, see more than one. > > > > > > I need to have my upper and lower jaw done. Guest guest
I can also recommend Dr. Schwartz, although he is not in NYC he is in Lake Success Long Island and operates our of LIJ. He is an excellent surgeon as is all of the docs in his group. They do (about 1x year) operate out of New York Presbyterian - Cornell Campus. My daughter had excellent results (upper, lower, genio). She had her surgery in July and will be getting her braces off on 2/9 Re: Finding the Best Surgeon? He is called Dr Hauser, 101 E 79th street. Guest guest
, Thank you very much for the name! I had orthognathic surgery many years ago and was not pleased with the results. This time, if I do it again, I want to be much more careful. Best, Bklyn > > > > > > > > I need to have my upper and lower jaw done.
