Guest guest
Good morning all - It is now a little after 1:00 a.m. in Idaho, and I have completed day 3. I am feeling wonderful, and I think I will continue for another day or two - no head hunger, no headache, etc. I have gone the 'cold turkey' route on this, as it is easier for me - just water, protein, vitamins. I can tell that I have lost, from the way my clothes fit - but as of yet, I have not weighed. I was just 17# from my goal, and then I gained 13#. I needed something to give me a 'jumpstart', and this was it, I'm happy to say. Once I get a mindset to do something, I am able to follow thru on it - for me, it works. Congratulations to all who did this in all or part. We each know our own physical and mental make-up, and know what is best for us, and I feel that each one of us is a 'winner', so to speak. By the way, I had my open-Rny on 12-27-00, going on 2 1/2 years ago. It is nice to know that the tool I have been given is working well - now I plan to move forward, and make my goal of 135# - hopefully over the spring and summer months. My very best to everyone. Warmly, Joannie

Guest guest
Nope, I've been doing the flax meal, too. I do drink chocolate shakes, too, but I always have. So, I'm thinking it's the protein...or maybe just the lack of fats? in NJ ********************** In a message dated 4/17/2003 9:09:19 AM Eastern Daylight Time, nanpug@... writes: > No.....mine didn't......but it is probably because I add a TBLSP of flax > meal to each shake..........that kinda keeps think a REAL different color > and texture......... Guest guest
Good morning Grads, Well, Day 1 wasn't too bad, protein shakes all day, then a couple of spare ribs at night. Day 2 was OK, too, shakes all day and a chef's salad for dinner. The problem was I ate a rather large portion of the salad, but it was just so good. Day 3 was fine until dinner, then me bad. I had salmon and, yes, some angel hair. I didn't cook it, it was take-out, the pasta came with it, and I ate it. But, tonight, I will cook, and if I have carbs, it will be in the form of veggies. I did lose 3 pounds, wish it was more, but I'll take what I can get. I must admit, it amazes me at how honest I can be with you guys. In the past, I would have neglected to mention the pasta if I was reporting to someone. You guys are the best! Hugs, in NJ

Guest guest
Oh, forgot to ask, and sorry to bring back the poop discussion again <BG>, but did anyone's stool turn black doing the heavy protein? It's been so long, I can't remember, but I thought it was only iron that did that. Protein does, too? in NJ

Guest guest
Well... I haven't been fasting. Eating quite well while following the induction part of the Atkins diet. Three weeks ago, the scale (on a high bounce) read 224#. EEEEEKKK!!! I saw 206# BRIEFLY this morning... and then it read 207# consistently. That's acceptable... doncha think? With all the motivational talk going on around here, I had recommitted to following the Atkins diet. Back in 1996, I had gone from about 360# (a guess, since my scale only weighs up to 350#, and it was not giving me a reading until about 2 weeks into the program) down to 245#. Back then, I was eating between 2500 and 3000 calories per day -- largely protein and fat sources -- and was under the watchful eye of my very-caring doctor. This was supposed to be the " last diet " that I ever would go on. I was also researching WLS at the time, and I was not entirely comfortable with the idea back then. This time... with the WLS... I am sated a lot faster on smaller quantities of food. I'm not very zealous about journaling my foods, but I made an effort to track it on http://www.fitday.com. It was interesting to note that I would prepare about 1500 calories worth of food per day, but actually consume 1000-1200 calories. (Feeling stuffed, too!) Dropping the carbs definitely made a big difference. I'm taking in less than 20g/carb per day. No headaches, no cravings. Note: I have my " medicinal " mug of coffee in the morning. With cream. My goal is to try to lose about 1 lb/week. Not dramatic, but by Christmas I should be down about 25-30 lbs. and I won't feel deprived. My biggest challenge is to stay away from alcoholic beverages when I go out on the weekend. I have " only " 3 or 4 in the whole night (we're out for HOURS). The consumption of empty calories bothers me more than the actual consuming of alcohol. I'm planning to switch to bottled water or diet soda. (I'm not a diet soda junkie, so this is a safe choice for me. It can sit there and go flat for all I care... ) I just bought a whole bunch of neat food products from the Atkins site. These things were not available last time I low-carbed it religiously... Just a quickie about the stuff I found: a food thickener that acts like corn starch, but is low-carb. A bread mix for my bread machine. Cheesecake mix. (And I want to thank Lyn -Butterflye- for her delicious cheesecake recipe too... **drool**) French crepe mix. Steak Sauce. Hoisin sauce. Chocolate sauce. Some sort of " Crunchers " chips... Months ago I had asked if anyone knew how to count foods containing MALITOL as a sweetener, since a lot of the sugar free candies contain that sweetener... and that there are CARBS listed on the nutritional label. WELL... here is what I discovered: Maltitol: This Sugar alcohol is used by food manufacturers as a replacement for Carbohydrates such as Sucrose. It contributes only 2.1 Calories per gram as compared to sucrose's 4 calories per gram; nor does it raise blood glucose as sucrose does. And... it is ZERO net carbs. Of course, you should be mindful of the calorie counts, since the delicious candies still pack a substantial caloric punch. Blessings, Keltie Re: Re: Days 2 and 3............... 3 pounds in 3 days?
