Blake,

I think you have a great smile. What exactly are you unhappy about?

Your smile did change, and I definitly know how hard that is to get

used to. I think you look fine. And your bite, is it ok?

Hi a,

My whole upper jaw has shifted to the right. My two front teeth no

longer line up below the middle of my upper lip (where as before

they did.) Also, I think my lower jaw could still be moved over a

little bit more. Or, am I just being vain????? My bite is still

getting used to -- I have an open bite on my back left that needs to

be closed orthodontically...

Thanks!

I would, although I'd be asking my surgeon and ortho about what

appears to me to be some residual asymmetry. (I'm no doc, though.)

Or have they already told you that you need a do-over?

I would not be at all surprised if elastics can tend to that, but ask

your docs, for sure.

And I think you can certainly be pleased with the big changes they've

given you so far! Congratulations.

Blake,

I had a second upper/lower surgery 5 weeks after my first surgery, and

my orthodontist took my aside 3 weeks after my first surgery and had a

discussion about my midline with me. My dentist first brought up my

midline issue followed by my ortho. My OS then took measurements, and

they came to a consensus. I got yet another opinion from a partner in

my OS's practice. My upper and lower midline was 4 mm off, and it

wasn't correctible with orthodontics because both of my jaws were in

line with each other.

I knew if I hadn't had the second surgery, I would have kicked myself

later on in life because it was noticeable to me, and getting it taken

care of on down the road would have required yet more orthodontics,

and a more rigorous surgery because of the difficulty of removing the

titanium plates due to calcification of the bone over them. My

insurance took care of the second surgery because it was filed as a

continuation of the first.

My advice is this: get a second opinion! I have heard of OS's that

will not acknowledge their measurements and work being anything less

than perfect. That is the main reason why my ortho severed a

relationship with another locally known OS. This OS grew complacent,

and it soured his reputation among my ortho's patients. Get both your

ortho and OS to take molds and measurements to make sure that they

share the same opinion you do about your smile.

Also, for me, while the second surgery itself was a cake walk, and the

visit to the hospital was a breeze, recovery was not pleasant. It may

be different since you are much further along than I was when I went

back under at 5 weeks. My energy was completely leeched, I was

extremely depressed about having to start from square one with the

liquid diet, and I experienced excruciating joint pain from trying the

elastics working to get my midline corrected. Looking back on it, I

am very glad I did it, but what I thought would be an easier surgery

and recovery was not.

On Tuesday, I'll be six weeks post off from my second surgery. I'm

just now starting to eat soft things like fish, tender meats, cooked

vegetables, etc. It has been a long road not having had anything to

chew up until now in almost 10 weeks!

Feel free to email me or IM me with any questions. This is still

fresh on my mind, so I can completely empathize!

Hi Blake,

Sorry for the delay in another reply, my computer at home is down. I

took another look at your pics and now I see what you are talking

about. I agree with the other replys that you have had, talk to your

OS, get a second opinion. What does your ortho say?

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Blake, did you see my recent posts? I am having problems getting

back onto the link, was only able to see your first two pix and now

my computer won't let me on again. do you have them anywhere else?

are they in this site? From what i saw, you look EXACTLY like me,

jaw shifted to one side. Look at my pix under " - off center

chin " . I am having this corrected via ortho work and one implant on

side of chin that will balance it out. will that work for you?

Hey --

Yahoo only lets you see 2 pics of a briefcase at a time (I mean, if

you are Right Clicking/Opening in new Window, only 2 will show up at

a time...).

Anyway, I was told that a second surgery could fix it. But man -- I

was thinking back to how miserable I was for 2 weeks. I'm almost

normal again -- but alas, I'll probably do it. I mean, if ins will

pay for it again that is....

Hi a,

My ortho said that normally when he gets someone back from surgery,

he usually has to make a few minor adjustments, and he's done.

However, he said there are no adjustments that can make my teeth

line up under my philtrum (crease below nose) as they did before.

Also, because I was assymetrical for 30 years, there's more muscle

build up on right side of face -- I'm to wait a year for muscle to

atrophy/residual swelling to go down, and then we'll see about

implants.

My next surgery is tentatively scheduled for April... ugh...
