Guest guest
My surgery is scheduled for January 17. I have bought alot of Ensure, Boost, Carnation, V8, gatorade, vitamin water. What is everyone using as a source of liquid fiber? Any recommendations on what brand to buy would be great. Thanks.

Guest guest
For what it's worth (I am three weeks post op today) I drank all of those products. 1. I ended up using Myoplex ready mixed in little cartons because they weren't so sticky as some others 2. I used good old-fashioned prune juice though I had Metamucil on standby 3. My favourite new thing is Thai take out (a very sloppy curry) liquidised, strained and then turned into a soup with milk or chicken stock. 4. I still have a cupboard full of Ensure etc and do slightly have to discipline myself in taking them. For a couple of days I was a bit slack on calorie and fluid intake and really felt down. But moving off Ensure to " real' food (soup - I can't manage anything that isn't strained...) had a very good psychological effect. One other tiny thing - my face was quite numb and my lips got very sore because of all the saline etc. a girlfriend bought me a natural sponge to wash my face with - it is fantastic. Hope all goes well with you. > > My surgery is scheduled for January 17. I have bought alot of > Ensure, Boost, Carnation, V8, gatorade, vitamin water. Guest guest
I bought Ensure with fibre (along with regular Ensure, fruit juices, etc). I'd go easy on the fibre, despite a friend's warning that it could be quite painful if things didn't move, after a week on a liquid diet, I had 2 days of the runs (the worst part of my recovery). Picture a house with one bathroom, me the sole occupant for most of that time : < Anyway, when I told a vet here (Cheryl or checsmia) what I'd been drinking, she said stop drinking the Ensure with fibre. That helped. Good luck with your prep. > > My surgery is scheduled for January 17. I have bought alot of > Ensure, Boost, Carnation, V8, gatorade, vitamin water. Guest guest
My only comment would be don't stock up too much. I ended up not touching most of the healthful things I bought preop: protein powder, liquid vitamins, powdered vitamin C, soy ice cream. First, I had no real appetite for a week after surgery. I also think my tastebuds changed a little, at least what I normally craved changed. I ended up eating lots of pureed mini raviolis and potato/cheddar/bacon soup with chicken broth to liquefy. All is not lost though. I'm now almost three weeks post op and I'm eating the healthy stuff again. Maddie > > My surgery is scheduled for January 17.
