Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Just wanted to post my surgery experience. I sure got a lot of info before surgery reading other peoples posts! Had surgery Dec 21, my lower jaw was moved 10mm forward and aprox 3mm to the Left. My diagnosis was mandibular hypoplasia. I just told my os that it was hard to keep my mouth closed while eating and had a hard time chewing. My insurance covered it the 1 time around. Lucky I know! Have had braces for 15 months. Did not have to donate blood for surgery. I came in to the hosp @ 6am, went through a little paperwork, had my IV started(no problem),and met w/my os and anestisiologist. The nurse gave me versed thru my IV to relax me before surgery and I don't remember anything else until when the nurses asked me to scoot over to my hosp bed in my room. I did not spend any time in ICU, I did not remember any tubes in my nose had no catheter and no pain. BUT... They were giving me morphine IV for the first 24 hrs and it made me throw up and feel nauseated. I could not even hold a sip down. Had a compression bra like thing around my head/face and a oxygen mask w/a humidifier. I had no trouble vomiting thru my teeth. After they stopped the morphine I was much better. Then I was on Loritab(vicodin) by mouth. The nurse set up a lg syringe for me to use for my juices. I was supposed to go home the next day but stayed a 2nd night b/c of the vomiting. Had a husband, Mom and nurse friend @ the hosp w/me the first day which was great to have them get washcloths and empty puke basins. Came home, just chilled. Had a hard time sleeping @ a 30 degree angle. The swelling hit me on day 2. Ohhh I loved those ice packs! Used ice for the first 4 days. Have been drinking Boost, carnation inst breakfast, propel and broth this week. I started out @ 124lbs. I have lost 8. The swelling is way down now. I seen my os yesterday and he loosed my bands a little. I can open a tiny bit. I crammed in cocoa wheats this morning mmmmm, and a baked potato from s w/sour cream, milk and cheese for lunch. I better slow down I know. My lips are about the worse thing right now, they gave me a tube of Vaseline to use @ the hosp and I cont to use it @ home. When I seen my os yesterday he said " throw that stuff away, it's tearing up your lips! " So I'm using carmex now and they are getting better. I am 100% numb in my chin and bottom lip but only the very tip of my tounge is numb. I still use my vicodin @ night but only ibuprofen during the day. Just tired. Going to go back to work on Jan 3. Hope this helps someone. Ask any questions. : # )
