Change in my thinking

Hi family, I am getting ready for my Florida birding trip tomorrow. Busy

packing anything and everything I might possibly need. The problem is that I

think I need it all....I hope reason prevails as I have to load it around

myself.

The reason for this note is to share with all of you a change in my thinking

about myself. Doing what is right and good for me does not come easily. A

year ago I went on a bird watching trip to Washington state 6 months out from

surgery. I told the leader about my surgery in case of an emergency, but that

was all I did.

Birds, as you know get up very early so Birders must get up early too. This

means we are leaving motels before they have a chance to put out any

breakfast items. The leader buys some things for us to eat but I found out

most of what he buys have lots of sugar and or carbs in them....I never said

a word. I ate very little or I ate anything that wasn't nailed down...I got

sick a lot.

Deep down inside I thought I didn't have the right to have healthy food I

could eat. As the trip progressed I found a tiny backbone and asked if I

could go to the store with him on a grocery run. We had a talk on the way and

the rest of the trip went well.

I sent him an email last week with some suggestions of things I can eat

that some of the others could eat too. If he didn't get it in time I am not

all shy about asking him to have someone take me to the store. Just in case I

am taking some things with me..MY choc/van Stack is in my backpack.

I continuously surprise myself with some " grown up thinking....One more

cool thing to share....On a trip 3 years ago...before surgery...I was easily

the biggest person on the trip. I weighed more than the men. We travel by

van...there are 3 rows of seats..each row holds 3 people. We would rotate

seats every day. I can still remember the looks from my seat mates.

.....so if any of you live in South Florida and see a van with birders

looking around at the birds...you won't be able to tell which one I am!!!

Sure I still need to lose a few more pounds but compared to where I have

been....I feel positively petite....Just in case, I am 5ft 21/2, salt and

pepper hair, glasses and a big smile.....Keep me in your prayers,
