I am 6 weeks post op from upper and genio. Just an update on my

status. I am feeling some sensitivity on my right upper teeth and

gums when I brush, it's almost too sensitive.

I went to the OD today and now I only have to wear 2 bands 24/7 and

one additional band at night only.

I am still swollen. Mostly in my nose, inside my mouth(palate) and

upperlip, but have a little still left in my cheeks. I hurt

sometimes around my nose if I make faces to stretch, but I guess

that's due to the swelling and tightness.

I love my new chin, but am not sure about the upper. I think once

the swelling goes down I will be happy, but right now I'm not too

sure about the middle of my face.

I am tingley in my upperlip and right side of my face.

I've noticed my gums have come down (some parts in my mouth are

actually touching my brackets on my braces), I'm not sure if it is

due to the swelling or what, but I asked the OD and he said to keep

an eye on it, so when I go back to the OS I will be asking him

also. Has anyone else experienced this?

just an update,

I, too, am six weeks post-op...

Today the OS cleared me to eat " anything I want " - woo-hoo!

Had sushi for lunch - a bit of challenge getting those big pieces into

my mouth (I can only open 25mm), but no problem once in.

Still swollen as you are, and also unsure whether I'm happy with the

esthetic results. But, am hopeful that as the swelling goes down and

the muscle heals (didn't realize any had been cut until the OS told me

today), things will look better.

Speaking of the cut muscle... doc said it'd likely be Summer before

it's healed and my face regains its old level of animation.

I was so glad to hear about this - I had no idea they'd cut muscle -

it explains a lot of things (like my somewhat creepy new smile, my

inabilty to " smack " my lips and to whistle, etc.).

Doc now has me doing jaw-opening exercises (cramming a stack of tongue

depressors into my mouth for one minute, twice a day) - I've got 20mm

to go before I'm back to my pre-op state.

, you asked about gums covering/touching your brackets - at my

last dental cleaning, the dentist complemented me on my good oral

hygiene, saying most kids with braces seem to wind up with their gums

overgrowing their brackets. So, perhaps it's a brushing issue?

Not that I'm accusing you of being a slacker - but perhaps you've

become a bit more tentative with the brushing since the surgery. I

know I have. But, I've also been enjoying using the baby toothbrush

and think I'll continue to use it until my braces come off - seems

like it's easier to work it around the brackets and under the hooks

and wires. I've kept my dentist's comment in mind, and have been

working hard to give my gums a bit of a workout with the brush (being

careful not to stray into the healing tissue).
