Guest guest
Hi Tom! Long lost friend here...JO-August surgery buddy How you feeling...I just wrote back to an insomia posting, was thinking of you and me and our very awake days and nights...but we made it through! I am now about 5 mths post-op...look good, feel good...should be getting the braces off soon... they want me to get a permanent retainer inside bottom lower front to help stablize my teeth...then impressions and OFF with the braces! Woo-Hoo! So happy when I heard that they would take the impression for my normal after braces retainer with my braces still on so that when I go to have them taken off, the retainer goes right on! I almost slid off my chair like ahhhhhhh. I am safe! (my big fear is them moving around)That's scheduled for (taking them off that is) for Feb! SO exciting! My only challenges is that I seem to be so comfortable with closing my mouth now that I clentch my teeth at night sometimes, heck Mon into Tues I bit off a bracket! yupper...and then yesterday out of no where I moved my jaw and got a pop sounds from the left...strange and didn't hurt, felt like my jaw popped...hasn;t done that In YEARS...before when I had TMJ in HS it did some, but very weird. Didn't hurt and didn't make any motion to do so again...who can say. I feel ok and that's what I will run with unless it happens again. So update me, how you're feeling and what not! Wonder how our other August surgery buddies are?! JO

Guest guest
Hey Jo!! That is so weird that were wondering about all of us that had our surgeries in august...because just last week i posted on here asking if those who had there surgeries in august were still hangin around this site! haha. but anyways...it sounds like you are doin great and making good progress. i can't believe how far i've come since my surgery. i'd say that i've felt completely back to normal since about early october. and my orthodontist has been amazed at my progress. he told me at my last appt. that he was almost positive that i'd need to wear braces for a year before my surgery...and i only had to wear them about 4.5 months and i was already ready for the surgery(i got them on the end of march). and at my last appt. a couple weeks ago...he said i'm ready to get them off...so i get my braces off this tuesday!! so i only ended up having them for about 9 months...and my OD figured about 18-24 months in the beginning. i'm still not used to the new shape of my face though. i still don't like touching my jaw(i can feelt the plates under my skin...hehe). and my new chin feels really weird to me still. i definitely love the way everything looks...but i guess i'm just not used to it yet. the only lingering issue from my surgery is actually from the nasal turbinectomies that i had done (removing bone and cartilidge from my nose/sinuses). but i've noticed over the past few months that my nose is always clogged now. and it's funny because someone posted about the exact same problem last week. so i'm gonna ask my OS about it when I got in on Monday. and about your jaw popping...yet another person posted about that too last week...hehe. and i have the same thing happen to me occassionally. doesn't hurt...just feels weird. and one last thing...is all the feeling completely back in your face?? i remember my first couple weeks...most of the lower have of my face as well as my mouth was numb. i was sooo freaked out about never getting feeling back!! and that has probably been the slowest part of the healing process for me. because i'd say it's just been since last month that i'd say i have total feeling back in my face. i have just the smallest amount of tingling in my lower right lip...but i don't even notice it. and my upper gums are still pretty numb....but i could care less about that! okay...well this is gettin pretty long...so i'll wrap it up. but it was great hearin from ya! keep postin every now and then and keep me and all of our other august buddies updated. and it think it's reassuring for those getting ready to have the surgery and those that are first week post op to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel!! Guest guest
Maybe I sensed the vibe but with all the holiday-buzz it was delayed in getting through So sounds like you're terrific too! NICE. I know this sounds cheesy, but I am proud of all of us post-ops. Did you or do you ever take a look at your pics from right after...I did just the other day and now I look and say wow...that WAS something...so glad I did it, but boy do I have drive and determination...I was just so ready then I think is the best way to put it. I have only a little numbness in my upper left lip-to nose-kinda tingly...and my pallet-which HA, I thought was back, is still working on it...the odd thing is, my OS can't exactly tell me when it should be all-back-bec I was not the typical patient sorta...well here's the deal. I had a tough history-and went into this, with definite challenges, some about me-like I am already thin-so weight loss, and a few of my teeth weren't soooo strong, so vulnerable, and I talk for a living so jeopardy there too...all sides...but I went a while to get to surg, longer than originally planned, partially bec of a paperwork mess up, but lucked out not needing the lower done, just genio. And it was " perfect " -as they tell me...the procedure, the results, the healing...but what impresses my OS and why he wants to hang up my pre-and-post-ops on his walls (of which he has none now) was as he put it, my " self " . He said I had a wonderful attitude, great resolve, perseverance, and determination...all that helped in ways I may never truly know...but I healed amazingly well, getting sensations back to my face very very early (which is why he doesn't know what to tell me w/pallet) and I was open all the way much sooner than he thought too, and so far, movement even with brace-tweaks has been near nothing. I too and still adjusting to ME...I do look different. I had someone ask me-several people actually if my fiancé was mad or if he can still recognize me in a crowd...silly I thought, but I guess if I didn't watch each second of the process maybe I would see it more. The side-by-side profile and front from my OR had me staring at me for the longest time, even my brow changed shape! Who knew!? As to popping, only once, and that's more than enough...spooky and just felt icky. I am clenching at night...Quite a lot. I am intensively trying not to, even stretching, calming my thoughts before sleep, NG...broke off a brace last week, another one this week...so now they are talking about a lower removable night retainer with squishy tops for my teeth to not hit...mo'money, but necessary. (oh and as to my pics...I don't have a scanner and my helpful friend has been sporadic in offering time to get them online...I do have a pic from a cell phone I can send you, are you at hotmail? I would rather send TO you for now, if you want...bec it's not so good. my eyes look sooo dark-kinda ill and I have no pre op yet...let me know) Have you heard from mindy or Tompool? He was running for political office post-op! I do keep in touch with someone I met locally on here, she's amazing...she had the total opp prob of me, but is thin as a rail like me too, and she and I traded recipes on blending things and gained weight and we share an OS-that's where we actually said hello, and he notes that we were his 2 toughest cases and came out great! always nice to hear oh and PS--I can't still use toothpaste bec while I can't feel everything, I can scream aloud from intense mint smushed up against my gums! this too should pass... did you do upper? bec every so often I feel sorta spongy when I push up on my pallet with my tongue...might be the gums returning or the scar tissue healing...like now, they feel this way-sorta foreign...and then when I breath in, I can sense the air moving through my gums/teeth-wacky right? Ok, this wasn't a note, it was a novel! Sorry to be SO wordy, I'm excited to hear from you JO > > > > Hi Tom! > > > > Long lost friend here...JO-August surgery buddy > > > > How you feeling...I just wrote back to an insomia posting, was > > thinking of you and me and our very awake days and nights...but we > > made it through! > > > > I am now about 5 mths post-op...look good, feel good...should be > > getting the braces off soon... > > they want me to get a permanent retainer inside bottom lower front > to > > help stablize my teeth...then impressions and OFF with the braces! > > Woo-Hoo! > > > > So happy when I heard that they would take the impression for my > > normal after braces retainer with my braces still on so that when > I > > go to have them taken off, the retainer goes right on! > > I almost slid off my chair like ahhhhhhh. Guest guest
Hey Jo...yeah I tend to write a lot too when i post :-) but i haven't heard from any other of our august buddies. i'm really curious as to how they are recovering!! oh...guess what! i got my braces off today!!! omg...i was sooo excited. I absolutely love the new me. and my entire OD office is just in like complete amazement of me(i honestly don't intend for that to sound conceited!!). i was one of those more complex cases as well. one of the assistants there was showing me my before pictures...before i got my braces on last march. omg...i didn't even want to look at it. my bite was awful...my face was out of line...i had no chin. and then they took new pictures today...and wow!! i couldn't believe how dramatic the changes were...in only a 9 month period. i'm so excited though...because i was supposed to have the on at least 6 more months (what my OD said last march). so this means i'll have a great smile for my college graduation this may...woohoo! yeah...i would love to see a pic of the new you. i'm sure you've seen mine in the album. i'll post some with my braces off just as soon as i can. but my email is tstapleton01@.... that's weird about you and the toothpaste. but i can relate...i don't have much feeling my my upper gums either...doesn't bother me though. well i could keep on writin...but i should get back to work! i'll keep post again soon though!
