Guest guest
I have been taking Xanax at night for a good two years, perhaps a bit more now. I wish that I had been taking it 40 years ago. Without it, I do not sleep. I take .50mg and I also sometimes take a Tylenol PM with that. I am also on Wellbutrin twice a day and now Buspar twice a day. General Anxiety and Panic Attacks are the reason. I had tried every sleeper I think the physicians had and they just do not work on me. Even with Ambien I am comatose for about three hours and then roam the night. I do have a weight regain but it is a bounceback I think and up some 20lbs from my very lowest where I was for about as long as it takes for a hummingbird to flap a wing. Considering a great many other medical challenges this does not bother me one bit and I have maintained here for two years now. I do not know if the Xanax causes weight regain, I only know that I should have had it, or something that would produce the effect for me that it does a lifetime ago. This is not much help or a direct yes or no to your question but it is my experience. Dan Slone Surgery 5/2/2000 weight gain from meds? Hello, I don't post often but I read almost all postings - except for the past week because I have been so overwhelmed. My question to you, my wise friends, is regarding Xanax. I have been prescribed it on a short-term basis to manage over some very rough times (and as a last resort). I am closely monitored by a psychiatrist/neurologist for this. However, I have been gaining weight since around the time I started taking it about 2 months ago. I am noticing that no matter what I eat / don't eat, excercise or not, the scale is creeping up. I am wondering if this is related to the Xanax or if it is my body just trying to normalize at 18 months post-op (5'4.5 @ 110 lbs, open RNY-proximal, very small frame). I also had severe malnutrition due to WLS complications which lasted from approximately June to December and required a significant surgical intervention in November (open repair of stomach obstruction which included taking apart and repairing then reattatching my pouch and intestines). This weight gain feels scary and out of control (even though it is just a few lbs). I am at the point where I want to maintain my weight and my surgeon agrees this is a good weight for me and my body type. Any thoughts or comments are welcome either privately or to the group.
