Guest guest
you wont want to do that. While hospital sucks they can do much better for eliminating oain than the vicodin also it is better to stay so you can get IV antibiotic to help prevent post-surgerical infection.\ ==scott > > Has anyone been released the same day as surgery? Guest guest
I definitely agree with you. I had my surgery Wednesday morning...and thursday morning my surgeon said i could go home if i wanted to. but i definitely wasn't ready to go home...even though i have a hospital-phobia...haha. you might as well stay there since you get waited on hand and foot and they can make you more comfortable than you would be at home with the adjustable bed, stronger meds, iv fluids, etc. Tom > > > > > Has anyone been released the same day as surgery? Guest guest
I went home the same day and I was fine. I was eager to get home to my cozy house with my special bed set up in the living room. The hospital was cold, old, and generally depressing. But, and this is a big but, I had only lower surgery. You'll undoubtedly stay overnight if you're having lower & upper. Guest guest
Some folks actually have it as outpatients, and go home not long after whatever procedure. I was really happy to be oblivious, the center of attention and the subject of most excellent care. But different strokes for different folks. Guest guest
I'm having braces put on tomorrow (1/3) and have an appt on 2/16 to consult with a surgeon on having lower jaw surgery. What scares me the most about the surgery is thinking that tubes will be down my throat. Do they put these in and take them out while you are awake, or are you not aware of them being in? Also, just how bad is the pain after the surgery and does it last more than one week? I'm reading so much (maybe too much) and have seen so many different post-op pictures. I had a friend who had the surgery 20 years ago and her mouth was wired shut. They don't still do that, do they? Thanks for any experience you can share. Guest guest
Don't worry about the tube. You are knocked out before they put it in. They take it out before you leave recovery/icu. It feels kinda funny when they take it out...but it doesn't hurt. Just relax when they take it up and don't tense up...and before ya know it...it'll be out! And to be honest...i felt no pain at all when i was in the hospital. the morphine they give you is some goooood stuff!! some people have the little push button thing and others have to call a nurse to put it in their iv....just depends i guess. but i had to call a nurse to put mine in. so the second i started feeling pain...i pushed the nurse call button and within about 15 seconds...a nurse was there injecting morphine in my iv. when you are in the icu...there is always a nurse no more than like 10 feet away. they check you ALL the time and make sure you are alright. About the wiring shut...the only time that is done is if wires were used to hold the jaw togehter after surgery. some surgeons still do this...but the rigid fixation is really the most common method of stabilizing your jaw after surgery. and with rigid fixation...you only need to be banded shut for a week or so...then they just use the guide bands to keep your jaw and bite in line.
