Guest guest
Hang tough. I quit smoking in 1997. I quit cold turkey after cutting back on the amount of and length of time between each and then one day I said that is it I don't have to have them. I quit and have not looked back. I refuse to start back any though there have been plenty of stressful time that I could have given in. I smoked 2 and 1/2 packs a day for 36 years and I just can't stand the thought of starting back and clogging up my blood vessels again. A. B. LAP RNY 3/22/03 Dr. Steve Weinstein, MD. Guest guest
thank you Heavenly Scents Candle Company Vickie 523 Dickson Circle Sherman, Texas 75090 website: www.heavenlyscentstx.us e-mail: rasmith@... Re: Smoking Dear Vicki, Try doing what I did. First off just cut back everyday on how many you smoke. Then I started leaving my cigarettes in an out of the way place so I would have to get up to get one. Each day wait a little longer before you have that first cigarette. By doing these thing you are gradually decreasing the amount of nicotine and therefore making it easier to quit without heavy withdrawals. Then one day when I went to get that first cigarette I just said no and never looked back. Stand strong and don't let yourself be tempted. Everytime you think about a cigarette make yourself think of something else. Keep a sugarfee mint in your mouth and keep your hands busy also. This is what worked for me and I had a real addiction after 36 year at two and a half packs a day. Hope this will work for you. Last of all never take not even one little draw off of another cigarette. A. B. LAP RNY 3/22/03 Dr. Steve Weinstein, MD. Guest guest
Don't hate me, but how about never? You've already gone over two weeks without cigarettes -- you're almost there! If you aren't ready to quit, I'd say ask your surgeon about when you can smoke again. I don't know why, and I have no medical basis for this, but I think your incisions should be healed before you light up. Guest guest
You should probably ask your OS, but I think you have to wait until the incision are healed to avoid any chance of infection. Guest guest
That's what I did. I quit the day of the surgery, knowing the worst would be behind me once I get home. The most terrible days are the first 4 ones, and I was on morphine when I went through them... You can't actually ask for anything easier ;-) Today, this exact day, I celebrate my 7th month being a non smoker (and my CD & DVD collection has since grown a lot !) Guest guest
I know. You don't want this message/sermon. But if you haven't since Dec. 17th, why in the world do you want to start up again???? You have a most excellent opportunity to continue having quit! You've knocked a hole in the habit already! (And congratulations for staying away from them!) I have seen the treatment for throat cancer in someone I love, and trust me -- no good flavor, habit-satisfaction, weight control, ease of anxieties is worth what that does. Please, please. Yes, I am fanatic on this subject. But honestly, it does nothing good for you, delays your healing, corrupts your tissues and can cause you pain and illness beyond belief. And that's not an opinion, nor a prejudice. It's the truth. If you don't believe me, ask a radiologist who treats throat cancer patients. Many people here are uneasy about catheters or intubation. Honestly, they are a walk in the park on a beautiful day, compared to the treatment for throat cancer. Guest guest
Good for you, and your lungs and throat and mouth tissues thank you, too! Hey, I heard a " Ray Carbone " serving as a financial expert on a PBS program lately. Was that you? (At least I think it was finance that was his expertise...) Guest guest
Hehe! No, it wasn't me. Carbone comes from the table of periodic elements (Carbon, in English, or Cabone, in French)... on a day I was totally lacking imagination, I picked this as a suitable nickname :-) Ray > > Good for you, and your lungs and throat and mouth tissues thank you, > too! > > Hey, I heard a " Ray Carbone " serving as a financial expert on a PBS > program lately.
