I just thought - ya right - if we can lose with diet and exercise then why was I still over 250 lbs? I did a lot of dieting and exercise all my life. sue

Guest guest
Believe it or not, I actually had the TV on but was on the phone so it was muted. Guest guest
I saw it and thought it was the usual " blame the victim " mentality. However, he did have some good points about the fact that many years ago there were much fewer obese people because people were more physically active. For example people walked more instead of driving, washed their cars instead of going to the car wash, kids played outside instead of video games, etc. Again, I think this may be true for obese people but ignores the difference between " obese " and " morbidly obese " which I believe is a totally different ballgame. Guest guest
Many years ago, we did not live in a carb based society. My dad's generation ate bacon & eggs for bfast. We ate sugar. cereal + milk, toast + juice. All sugar. I was ravenous before I got to school. On weekends, when my dad cooked, I was never hungry. Fat satisfies, sugar makes you crave Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
> I saw it and thought it was the usual " blame the victim " mentality. >> your comment reminded me that barbara walters kept asking john wasnt' this blaming the victim and what about metabolic disorders which he said happened in only 1% of people. that was the intro to the full hour show on tuesday. seemed like she didnt' go along with him. he also briefly had an exercise physiologist on [unless I have my shows mixed up] who insisted that unless you are sweating you are not even close to losing any weight from exercise and that you needed to do at least 6hr. a wk. of exercise. she also said that its a myth that having more muscle will allow you to burn more calories - you only burn 24 more calories a day - not substantial enough to claim muscular people burn more. she had a book coming out about the 8 myths of exercise but for the life of me I don't remember her name or the book. I'm not even sure it was the same show, seems like I saw her earlier in the week [not friday]. sue

Guest guest
Yes this is an excellent point. I don't think they mentioned this in the 20/20 story. It sure is my experience that the more carbs I eat, the hungrier I get and the more cravings I have to fight off. Guest guest
I don't remember the exercise physiologist but I didn't watch the whole segment. However, that brings up another point....they made a big deal about the twin that was heavier than his brother. Am I the only one who thought that both twins looked just fine?? I did not think the heavier twin looked obese. And they made a big deal about the fact that the heavier one " only " lifted weights while the slimmer one ran on a regular basis. Guest guest
Oh, I can hardly wait. (notice a tone of sarcasm here.) If diet and exercise were the answer, I would never (and I repeat never) would have needed surgery. So I'll be watching with sense of humor in hand for Tuesday night. Lori O. Guest guest
Addicted to food? As in, the same way I'm addicted to air & water? Or as in food is a bad thing? Unless you've got friends with IV's, we're kinda stuck with using food. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
