Guest guest
so many on this list are PS experts, I was wondering if someone would explain Undermining to me. do they actually cut away the excess skin? just lift it and pull it tighter? what the deal? long story short I had a nasty wide scar revised on thursday but she couldn't really just cut out the wide part and stitch it shut or I would have had a bulge at the top so she had to undermine the top and stitch the whole thing shut. so what exactly did she do to the top section? sue

Guest guest
Undermining the skin is when they separate the skin from the underlying muscles. They're generally connected somehow? Anyway, a surgeon would undermine skin in order to be able to move it, tighten it, separately from the underlying structure. What she did was probably cut out the scarred skin, then undermined the adjacent skin so she could pulled it closed very smoothly. If she just cut out the scar and pulled it together, it would be all bunchy with the muscle and tissue underneath. Think of skinning chicken, how the skin is connected to the meat. Well, sorry, don't think about that. Yuck. in Austin RNY April 1998 undermining > so many on this list are PS experts, I was wondering if someone would explain Undermining to me. do they actually cut away the excess skin? just lift it and pull it tighter? what the deal? >
