Guest guest
Tomorrow is my lower jaw surgery! They're going to move it back 9-10 mm and I'm going to be wired shut for 6-8 weeks, hopefully everything will go okay. I went shopping yesterday and I bought a lot of protein shakes and liquids. Any other suggestions? I also bought a new blender because the one we have is old and won't really liquify stuff.. I ordered some zip-n-squeeze stuff but it still hasn't arrived. I hope it does by the time I get back home. Does time go fast in the hospital? I'm not too fond of them and my surgeon said my stay will depend on how well I recover the first day. My mom will be there, she's an RN so hopefully they'll let her stay with me so that she can do the misc. things. Wish me luck! Jo

Guest guest
Hay Jo, it's JO! Good luck tomorrow. I had the opposite of you, but met someone with an underbite larger than yours who just went through this too... She made out just fine...so relax and heck be excited~! I have writen a lot in the past about the blender, I don't like shakes, I ate zero and didn't lose a pound! Just consider this, anything can be blended, think outside of the box...nothing stopped me and it was all tasty-heck I actually like some things MORE blended now than regular! Add water, milk, juice, gravy, butter, and so on to help liquify anything...I ate chicken cutlets, chinese food, sweedish meatballs, stuffed peppers, and even salad which was heavenly if you like greens!!! If you need recipes write me jfloweroflifet@... and I will send you specific ones... as to being in the hosp...I was upper, genio...I spent 3 days...but if I wanted to be daring, could have left day 2 at night... the hosp went quick for me, just tried to rest...didn't even watch tv, slept mostly-read or listened to my cds. I would def bring books and a pad to write notes on, BIG for others to read easily, maybe a journal, emotions tend to run a bit...and if you';re into music, a cd or Mp3 or what not...most impt...take it easy and one step at a time...your going to be racing a bit, the wonder of it all, the what if's...remember you can get through this just fine...you obviously have a loving mom...that's a HUGE plus. And hay-tell them (with the support of your OS) that you NEED to have your mom stay over with you...should you have an emergancy you can't yell out, and I know there's that button, but this is so diff then leg surgery-they allowed mine first night and my fiance nt 2-but with SOme doing-it was worth it although I just watched those 2 sleep all bent up for 2 nts more than I actually slept. Just made me feel good to have them near me, safe I suppose..this is one of those times where it's ok to be super dependant, let others help you and just try to chill so you heal well. Let me know how you're doing post-op please! Oh and if you're in a cold area, bring an extra scarf...while I had my recent surg in Aug, I did have one yrs back and it was winter in NY,...cold...and shivering on the jaw is not so nice-so look like a geek and wrap up that head before popping outside!! all the best!
