Has anyone gone to Weight Watchers post-op? If so, did you reveal to

the group (or the leader) that you had WLS? Were you well accepted

if you did? Was the diet adequate as far as our special nutritional

needs? Were you hungry after following the diet to the letter, or

could you not eat everything you were supposed to? How far out were

you when you joined? Did you lose more weight? I know these are

alot of questions, but I am seriously considering Weight Watchers

because I was a member (many times!) pre-op, and it has worked in the

past for me. Please share any experiences you might have with this!

Thanks in advance,

Deanna

Yes, I joined, and followed the program failthfully at around 3 years

post-op.

I told the leader and shared with the group, and they were fine with it and

very welcoming.

No, the diet is not adequate -- mainly because of the way the points system

works. With the points system, you base a food's value on calories + fat -

fiber. The higher the fat and calories, the higher the points, but there is

no allowance for carb values. Fat-free foods (which are high in carbs) have

lower points, because fat has more calories than carbs. As an example, my

protein shake, which has almost no carbs, weighs in at about 5 points. A

fat-free ice cream sandwich, which is loaded with carbs, only has 2 points.

If my point range is in the 27-31 range, and I have 3 points left at the end

of the day, I will go over points by having protein, and stay under points

by using the ice cream sandwich!

I found myself not eating in a healthy way at all. In order to stay at low

points, I was neglecting my protein badly.

Now, if you want to eat all your points in protein, you can, you just don't

tend to get as much actual food out of the deal, or as much variety.

Also, there is a requirement to get 3 servings of milk or dairy a day. I

don't believe that -- I don't drink milk, and I discourage others from doing

so (even normies -- the purpose of milk in nature is to make baby cows fat,

and it does that pretty well with people too). I would use my calcium

supplement as the measure of my servings of " milk, " but it always felt

stupid to have to log those little milk cartons on my journal!

Bottom line -- no, I did not lose weight, and even though I stayed at my

point range every day, I gained another 10 pounds.
