Guest guest
hiya gang...i have a friend who is 6 mos post op d/s NO bpd and her doc told her to ONLY eat 15g of carbs a day... does that sound insanely LOW to anyone else? my surgeon told me to keep it at 100 or under & my understanding is that for a woman, 125 or less will keep you in ketosis... what did everyone else's doc say (or what did you do based on your own research)... i also know someone online (tho i can't find it of course) is a baseline amount of carbs our bodies need for our brains to function normally...anyone know the ballpark #? thanks! {{hugs}} kate

Yes, even by Atkins standards, where in induction you're on 20 a day for 2 weeks, then up to 30, and gradually a little more up as long as you stay in ketosis. (That's Atkins plan, not mine). Is she sure he said 15 and not 50? She'll get that much from 4-5 protein drinks and have no place for veggies and other good carbs. ~~ Lyn

Guest guest
To be totally honest I don't remember exact figures but I believe my surgeon recommended not more then 5 grams of carbs per serving and preferrably not more then 30 grams per day. However, I never counted the carbs in the protein I ate. It was also suggested that carbs should be less then 20% of what I consume in a day. Guest guest
i asked her to double check with her doctor and she hasn't gotten back to me -- but because of the amount of carbs in fruit, she hasn't even been drinking protein shakes!! i made her the mother of all protein shakes the other day, it was really about 6 shakes worth if she split it up right but each serving had over 30g of protein from powder, strawberries, soy milk...came out quite tasty if i say so myself and i went a little heavy handed on the protein to ensure she's getting at least 30g if she skimps some on the serving size!! she's now eating more and i told her to worry more about simple carbs vs. complex carbs -- sent her several websites with info -- for me, i've never counted calories or carbs (YES I DO READ LABELS and go for the healthier foods!!) but i figured as long as i was losing weight, i wasn't worrying too much about it...and it worked. i lost 148lbs and am below goal.. thanks for the responses! kate > > Is she sure he said 15 and not 50?
