hey there everyone, i had an icky thing happen today. i taught a cpr

class and was unable to have lunch..(they WAY overbooked the

class!!) so here's all i ate:

6am: 1/2 cup raisin bran with 1tbs flax seed, enough soy milk to wet

it down

7:30am: 8oz coffee with 30g protein, 2oz soy milk, 2 oz heavy

whipping cream

8-11:30am: 16oz water

11:30: 1/2 Think Thin Crunchy Peanut Butter Lite protein bar

12:30-2pm: 8oz water

2:30: 1/2 Think Thin Crunchy Peanut Butter lite protein bar

3-4pm: 8 oz water

and anyone who knows me, KNOW that i eat a lot more than that

usually. ugh i felt awful..cranky, hard to think, spacy, HUNGRY,

shaky --so i'm wondering

1. if anyone else has had their blood sugars go super low like this

post op

2. if so, what did you eat?

my first inclination is to grab easy carbs...what i decided on was a

casserole i made that had: beef stew meat & pinto beans that had

been cooked all day in the crockpot in green enchilada sauce layered

between some corn tortillas, topped with cheese & baked. i sliced

off about 3/4 cup worth and added some more cheese on top, nuked it

and ate it in like 15 minutes flat! i figured that was better for

this body (good mix of protein & carbs) instead of straight

carbs...so now i'm sitting here (having just finished the last bite)

and wondering how long until i feel better. my body feels like i ran

a marathon (yea like i'd know what THAT feels like lol)

i weight lift and have never felt like this -- though usually i have

a protein shake before working out & one after (or 1/2 bar before,

1/2 bar afterwards)

think i'm gonna go lay down for awhile ---

Dear Kate,

You actually made a pretty good choice. I typically do peanut

butter and crackers or cheese and crackers. You need the carbs for

instant energy and the protein for sustaining energy. It should take

about 30 minutes to really kick in.

I've had that happen. What I do is I usually have some juice, and

something with protein... cheese or peanut butter. If I have the

juice without the protein, then my sugar spikes too high and drops

quickly again. The protein helps to balance it. I notice it

especially after a long workout.
