Guest guest
Who among you with seriously crinkly, wrinkly, flab in the wind, cottage cheese, sharpei thighs wear shorts. I know some of you with a little bit of this feel you can't wear shorts. But those of you with a realistic image of yourselves, do you actually wear shorts. I am trying for the courage and dam what anyone thinks. I have a strong, handsome and built son in law who thinks I should wear what I want to wear. Guest guest
>> Who among you with seriously crinkly, wrinkly, flab in the wind, cottage cheese, sharpei thighs wear shorts. Heck, I didn't wear shorts when I was fat, and I had decent legs then. I have one pair, almost knee-length lycra bicycle shorts, that I wear when I go swimming -- yes, I won't even show those thighs in the pool, and the pool folks will let me wear them because they are skin tight and not cut-offs, so I have them for that purpose only. I also don't wear anything with short sleeves in front of people. I did at first, but once when I was at a party, a little girl about 4 years old came up to me and, in a very worried voice, said, " Oh, what happened to your arms? Does it hurt? " -- so I decided my arms scare small children and the world should not be subjected to that. Besides which I am concerned that I will take off in a strong wind because of the wing effect <grin>. My legs will never be good, even if I got to goal weight, even if I had excess thigh skin removed, because I have nasty-bad-sticking-out varicose veins. I've had them for years and years, and they're not going anywhere, so unless purple legs come into fashion, these are staying under cover. But that's just me -- nope, I'm not self-conscious, I'm afraid of frightening the squeemish! ~~ Lyn G

Guest guest
I wore shorts even when I was over 300 pounds. My thought was, who am I kidding if I think that wearing long pants will make me look like I am less than 300. So, rather than walk around even hotter and sweatier than I already was, I wore shorts and figured people could look away if it upset them! Now that I am 133 pounds, I am MORE sensitive about wearing shorts than before. I still wear them but I always make sure I buy the kind that go almost to the knee. My saggy baggy legs look like a cross between an elephant and a sharpei dog! I will be having plastic surgery (3 procedures) in June including an outer thigh lift. This should help but I still need an inner thigh lift which I won't be having. In any case, I really want to get back to the point where I feel comfortable wearing whatever I want without regard for what others think. from Washington Lap RNY Sept 2001 Minus 200 pounds 333.5/133.5 http://www.wworw.com > Who among you with seriously crinkly, wrinkly, flab in the wind, cottage > cheese, sharpei thighs wear shorts. ]

Guest guest
Dear Faye, I am self conscious about my crinkly, wrinkly, sharpie thighs and butt.. but I still put on my swimsuit and go swimming.. I also have some serious batwings.. some days I think I could darn near take off and fly with those things.. I wear shorts, but usually the knee length variety.. as I really dont mind my lower half of my legs.. just from the knee upward.. Hopefully, I will be able to have all the plastics to fix everything one day.. sigh~ Hugs, from GA open RNY 12/12/00 Revision 04/18/01 Revision 02/07/02 St wt.... 392 Cw.......187 Wt loss..-

Guest guest
Fay, I wear shorts and sleeveless shirts and tank tops. I did when I was 272 pounds as well. I guess because I was very overweight as a child, and had a mother and grandmother who were also very obese, that I never thought " not " to wear these things. I've never been any more self conscious about wearing shorts rather than pants... unless my legs are totally white! My mother taught me a very good lesson when I was younger... of course, she never minced words... When my Dad said something to her one day about, " The neighbors will talk. " Her reply to him was, " Who cares what the F*** the neighbors think. " I guess that's kind of the way I look at things. If people don't want to see me in my shorts and tank tops, then that's their problem. I'm not out to impress them. I'm out to live the best life I can. Please don't let your feelings of what other people might think about how you look stop you from being comfortable. They probably don't care either. Besides, you've done great! Guest guest
I agree with your hunky son-in-law. But, I also know where you're coming from as I wouldn't wear shorts out in public until a year after my WLS. It was then that I realized how much cooler it actually was in the summer...gee, go figure. Guest guest
I carried the majority of my excess weight in my hips, butt & thighs so I have a considerable amount of excess skin there - and the empty skin is NOT a pretty sight. It doesn't stop me from wearing what I want though. I wear shorts all the time and don't give it a second thought usually. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of my thighs and have one of those " I shouldn't have worn the shorts " moments, but they pass quickly. I also have huge batwings, but wear sleeveless shirts all the time.
