Guest guest
1. Are you male or female? Female 2. Starting Weight? 280 3. Weight now? 145-150 4. Surgery type and date? Medial Rny, 7-30-01. Breast reduction 11/2002. 5. Amount bypassed if you know? 100cm 6. Length of common channel if you know? Don't know 7. Pros of your surgery? Feel " normal " again, can go up stairs, walk, without being short of breath, joints don't ache nearly as much, wear regular clothes, increased self-confidence, too many to list really! 8. Cons of your surgery? Taking all these pills! I never took any meds. regularly before WLS so this has been something hard to get used to doing. Constantly watching labs. 9. Greatest joy. Not embarrassing my kids due to my size, limitations. Again, the general increase in self-confidence and decrease in physical pain. 10. Greatest challenge. Just keeping up with the labs, protein and vits. Not falling back in bad eating habits. 11. Your age at time of surgery? 35 12. Any advice to others? (about 5 lines if you can manage) Research, and research again. Keep reading and keep learning. There is a LOT more to maintenance of this surgery than your doc or nutritionist is going to tell you. Do whatever it takes to make this work for you. 13. Your surgery doc? if you care to say. Dr. Margaret Inman, Indianapolis, IN 14. Your regimen of food and exercise? (Please summarize in a short paragraph; aprx calories per day estimate/and minutes of what kind of exercise/and how often?) I don't even think about it. I eat everything in moderation, although generally protein-heavy. Try to avoid bread, pasta only because they make me feel lousy and they're too easy to overdo. Sugar-free treats when at all possible. Coffee addict (hanging head in shame). Exercise...hmm, I'm bad about this but I promise to do better! I work PT, 2 young kids, homemaker, avid gardener and walker. 15. Which of these adjuncts do you use? (hypnosis, prayer, affirmations, journal keeping, therapy, OA, meddies, etc.) Online groups, people I've met locally through our support group (which none of us go to anymore because they're not relevent to anyone this far out from surgery), prayer. 16. What is your daily vitamin and mineral supplementation? 2 multi-vits, 1 E, 3 Calcium citrates, 1 A and D, 3 Carbonyl iron with Vit C tab, Biotin, Milk Thistle, monthly B-12 inj. which I self-administer, did I get everything? LOL. I also do at least one protein shake/day. I'm due to get labwork results back soon so we'll see if my " tweaking " this regimene has helped at all. More to follow!
