Can you tell me what this is? I have swollen legs -- that used to be lymphedema

but now does not pit. My Dr. tells me to wait until I have lost all my weight -

but I look so disfigured adn i wonder if there is any treatment I can take now.

:-(

Blood doesn't flow back to the core from your legs. Fluids pool in

your legs => swelling (edema).

Compression hose (I recommend Jobst brand, pricey, but work well;

~$30-$35/pair). Also, a diuretic (Rx item) such as a thiazide (but

most deplete potassium, so you may also need potassium

supplementation).

After I lost weight, my swelling disappeared; hair once again grew on

my legs (sign of regained strong circulation of blood), and I no

longer needed compression hose.

Good luck,

Steve

In my case, I don't have swelling anymore, but there are raised bumps on

both my lower legs that looks sort of like eczema. It's noticeable and

prevents me from wearing dresses without pantyhose or capris. My doctor

prescribed some mild hydrocortisone cream and when it didn't work he said

that the bumps would go away as I lost the first 100 pounds. They didn't.

Just wondered if anyone else has dealt with this.

As long as we are on this subject I've been having a problem that

none of docs so far have been able to pinpoint. Perhaps someone here

has an idea of may be the cause and or cure. About 6 months ago my

trainer asked me if my left leg was swollen or was I wearing " funny "

socks. Lower leg from the knee to about the instep of the foot was

swollen. I don't know for how long before she noticed it had been

that way. Asked my diabetes specialist, fearing that it was from the

dreaded diabetes- nope says he but perhaps since you just had surgery

for the intestinal hernia it's a blood clot. Off to a vein

specialist- nope, tests show no clot and veins are fine. PCP doesn't

know so he sends me to my gastric bypass surgeon (everything that

happens must be because of the bypass, ya know). He suggests

compression hose for two months and come back. Back I went yesterday-

leg still swollen. No real pain in the leg just a general heaviness

at the end of the day but pain in the top of my foot after a couple

of hours walking (bad enough to cause limping). Not lymphedema, no

pitting, toes not swollen. I tried H-wave therapy and that made the

foot hurt. No one seems to have any idea what the cause is and I

can't decide to worry about it or not. Any ideas out there?

I also have this problem in my legs. Interesting point, when I was at the

Mayo clinic, the doctor told me that if I spent a lot of time in

water.....swimming, bathing, etc....that would help (in addition to the

compression hose.

So I have been going to the pool and doing water exercise....and Walla!! my

legs are much better.....only wear the compression hose when cleaning house,

riding in car, airplanes....etc!!!!!

God Bless,
